    Lawrence Joseph Cortelyou, 66, a resident of Falmouth, Ky., died Monday, March 10, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ft. Thomas, Ky.

  • I had the urge at midnight for pancakes. Since there is no one here to wake up, I decided I really needed to treat myself with pancakes. All I had to do was add water to the pancake mix and put it in a skillet of hot oil.

    I poured out enough batter for three pancakes. They stuck to the skillet and rolled up in a ball when I tried to scrape them out with a spatula. I remembered reading that the oil is ready for the batter to be poured in the skillet when a drop of water dances in the oil. I poured in a drop of water. It exploded and sprayed grease all over the once spotless stove.

  • During our single digit weather a couple of weeks ago my mom commented on how it was good because it would kill some of our least favorite garden pests, she said "at least the cold temperatures will kill some of the insects." I didnt have the heart to tell her that most insects are well-equipped to withstand a deep freeze.

  • According to reports, a record crowd attended the Kentucky Cattlemen's Convention in Lexington with 1,287 members taking part in the activities. David Maples was excited over the enthusiasm of the attendees. He said membership in the association will probably be record breaking this year, too.
