  • Bradfords to host Harrison Co.Farm...

    The Harrison County Farm Field Day will be held Monday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m. We will be visiting the farm of Troy and Mary Ware Bradford located on Connersville Pike. The farm is approximately three miles from Cynthiana.

    The farm operation includes 300 acres of land which corn, soybeans, tobacco and hay production creates a unique farm program.  Although many of these enterprises are labor intensive, I think you will see how you can reduce some of the expenses.

    •Ryleigh Analeise Maybrier was born to Stephanie Stokes and Justin Maybrier of Cynthiana on Sept. 9, 2010 at Central Baptist Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 6 oz.

    Births announced this week are: Tyler Scott Bowman, Oct. 2, son of Cathy and Junior Bowman; Anthony Cleveland Schultz, Sept. 14, son of Mark and Kristin Walker Schultz; Alyssa Danielle Kilpela, Sept. 7, daughter of Matthew D. and Jeannie M. Kilpela.

    Harrison County High School Singers head for Disney World, Orlando, Fla., to participate in concert. HCHS choir director is Michelle Hassall.

    CENTER HILL SCHOOL

    The Center Hill School reunion will be held Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Bingo Hall in Bourbon Square. Anyone who attended or worked at Center Hill is invited. A potluck begins at noon. There will be door prizes, a silent auction and raffles.

  • Noah Clay Simpson

    Noah Clay Simpson was born to Stevie Clay Simpson II and Rebecca Jean Simpson of Berry, Ky. on Sept. 7, 2010 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.

    He weighed seven pounds, 14 ounces and is welcomed home by his sister Kary Suzanna Simpson.

    Maternal grandparents are Mark and Delores Marsh of Berry.

    Paternal grandparents are Stevie and Sue Simpson of Harrodsburg, Ky. and Lillie Simpson of Millersburg, Ky.

    Maternal great-grandparents are George Marsh and the late Kary Marsh, the late Edward Crawley and Jean Crawley and Diane and Robert Long.

  • Managing droughty conditions

    It has not been a very forgiving summer when it comes to the heat, but what is of more concern to us now is the lack of rain. 

    Some are in the throes of a severe drought, others threatened soon to be put on the list.  If you are among them, I hope you have started to water because we are seeing some unfavorable conditions for newly planted trees, shrubs and perennials.

    So, how much is enough when it comes to water?

    The Harrison County 4-H Livestock Judging team has had another excellent season in 2010. They kicked off their judging endeavor in March with the Kentucky Beef Expo.

    The Harrison County High School Class of 1964 will be holding its annual informal get together on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. The reunion will be held at the home of Bonnie (Pierce) and Tim Teater, 626 Waits Rd. The meal will be provided, however, if classmates have a specialty they would like to share, feel free to bring it.

    Births announced this week are: Samuel Henry Crump, Sept. 1, son of Lewis and Melinda Crump; Natalie Ann Crump, Sept. 21, daughter of Jessica Crump.

    The City of Cynthiana received a “Renaissance Kentucky” bronze distinction. The program started in 1997 as a way to recognize and help support Kentucky communities wanting to restore and vitalize their downtown areas. Over the past two years, $32 million dollars have been given to the communities for various projects who applied for the program.

  • Harrison County to receive a $975...

    The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board approves the Licking River Valley RC&D for $975 in Harrison County Agricultural Development Funds for the promotion of area farms and agribusinesses.

    The goal of this project is to increase consumer awareness of agricultural products and services available in Harrison County. To promote area farms and agribusinesses a professional brochure and map will be created to list and show the locations of commodities and services of Harrison County agriculture.

  • Final date to apply for SURE is...

    Barry Sims, County Executive Director of the Harrison County FSA Office, reminds area producers of the Sept. 30, 2010 final date to apply for the 2008 Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments Program (SURE).

    Producers who suffered 2008 crop losses may be eligible to receive benefits under the SURE program. All applications must be filed by Sept. 30, 2010 to be considered timely filed.

    In order to be eligible all crops including hay must have been insured with FCIC or NAP for the 2008 year.
