Ellington-Browning to marry May 17

Angela Ellington and Derrick Browning, both of Cynthiana, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
The wedding will take place on May 17, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the home of Jamie and Beth Ellington on Shawhan Road, Cynthiana. A reception will follow the ceremony.
Ellington is the daughter of Paul W. and Lynn Ellington of Cynthiana. She is a 1994 graduate of Bourbon County High School, Paris, Ky., and is employed as a private sitter.

Vacant Barlow United Methodist Church to be demolished

 

First United Methodist Church plans to lay to rest a vacant country church.

A meeting will be held at the First United Methodist Church May 30, at 7 p.m., to discuss future plans for Barlow United Methodist Church.

Violence in sports, how long until it happens here

I spent Monday this week working in Indiana, which gives me a lot of time to listen to the radio while in the car.
I listen mainly to sports radio but now and then will venture over to the news, which generally depresses me so I don’t listen for any long periods of time.
Monday the news had quite a bit about the soccer official who was killed when an irate player hit him in the side of the head and killed him on April 27 in Utah.

Last week’s photographs from the Cynthiana-Harrison  County Airport’s Aviation Day, which was held Saturday, April 27, were taken by Sara Durham. They were submitted by Re’Jeana Craft.

Tumska and Markley qualify for state in tennis, play next week at UK

Harrison County High School juniors Sofia Tumska and Jacob Markley each finished fourth in the regional competition to qualify for the state championships next week at the University of Kentucky courts.  
Coach Ron Markley was overjoyed with the team’s performance.  
“We won every one of our opening matches,” said Markley. “Everyone advanced to at least the second round and four of our players went to at least the third before losing.”  

Breds win four more, improve to 17-5, host Sayre Wednesday

The Harrison County Thorobreds continued their mastery of the 38th District as they won three district games last week before defeating Scott High’s Eagles on Alumni/Fence of Fame Night on Friday.
The Thorobreds started the district games with a doubleheader thrashing of Robertson County.  
The Wednesday twin bill was completely dominated by the Breds as the home team won by 22-0 and 10-0 scores while playing the entire roster.  
Eighteen Thorobreds batted in the first game which lasted five innings.  

Brown’s new attorney wants to change trial venue

 

A new attorney for Kay Brown told Judge Jay Delaney that he would be filing a motion for a change of venue.

A Day at the Derby

Sporting the latest fashion Southside Elementary Kid’s Club members Bradley Brewer and Haylie Thornsburg were present during the day of the Southside version on the Kentucky Derby at Ingles Stadium.

   

Public banned from public meeting

The Commission on Aging Board of Directors met Thursday afternoon and immediately went into a closed session.
The commission was to meet with an IRS representative to ask that penalties and interest on what is now nearly $60,000 in unpaid payroll taxes be waived.
Under Kentucky law there are exemptions that allow for closed sessions if the criteria is met.
The Cynthiana Democrat objected to the closing a public meeting under the exemptions presented by Mayor Steve Moses.
