Get happy, part two

A few weeks back I wrote about “What’s making me happy,” which got a great response from people.
Some sent emails or stopped me in the market to tell me what’s making them happy. Seems everyone was riding the happiness train.
But then someone pointed out that God never promised us happiness and that those who pursue it never obtain it.
There’s always a buzz kill in every crowd.
Still, the person had a good point and one worth exploring.

Tumska and Markley qualify for...

Harrison County High School juniors Sofia Tumska and Jacob Markley each finished fourth in the regional competition to qualify for the state championships next week at the University of Kentucky courts.  
Coach Ron Markley was overjoyed with the team’s performance.  
“We won every one of our opening matches,” said Markley. “Everyone advanced to at least the second round and four of our players went to at least the third before losing.”

Medicaid expansion could change...

 “Today we change the course of Kentucky’s history.”
It is not often that a public official can say such a thing with a large measure of credibility, but Gov. Steve Beshear legitimately raised that hope last Thursday, as he announced that he would expand Kentucky’s Medicaid program under federal health reform.

LVC/MCTC holds graduation and...

The Licking Valley Campus of Maysville Community and Technical College held its annual graduation celebration and awards program on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Prizing House in Cynthiana.  
The evening was filled with music, food and honors for MCTC/LVC graduates.
The program opened with the LVC choir singing “My Old Kentucky Home” and a welcome from Bruce Florence.
Remarks were offered by Dr. Juston Pate, Chief Academic Officer, who bestowed the honor awards on the winning recipients.

Brown spends summer as intern...

 

 A Harrison County High School graduate and now a University of Kentucky student has come home for the summer to work a dream job.

Jessica Brown, 21, is serving a 13-week summer internship at the Harrison County Extension Service.

Breds runners up, Fillies 5th in...

“We finished region champs last year and runners up this, and I am extremely proud of this group of athletes,” said Thorobreds Track Coach Robert Walker. “Considering the people we lost to graduation and those that fell by the wayside this year this group showed a lot of heart. We had people who were injured competing and giving their all.”

Fillies take Senior Night win...

The Harrison County Fillies rebounded from a 10-0 defeat two weeks ago in Carlisle and handed the Nicholas County Lady Jackets a 7-2 loss Thursday night at Shirley Field.
The Senior Night for Ashley Coppage, Morgan Florence and Jasmeen Smith was made even more special by the resounding victory over the district rival, Lady Jackets.  
Errors continued to plague the Fillies, however, as Nicholas County scored in the first when Megan Bretz reached on an error at short and scored on Shelby Wade’s single with two outs for an unearned run.  

Thorobreds trap Bearcats 5-2

BHarrison County improved its 2013 baseball record to 18-5 on Thursday as they defeated Anderson County’s Bearcats 5-2 in a game on the Hilltop.  
The Bearcats (7-16) trailed throughout the game as senior hurler Jordan Martin held them to four hits in his six innings of work.  
Anderson County scored both of its runs in the top of the seventh off relief pitcher Gus Garrison, who gave up a home run to junior lead off hitter Brandon Eliadis after he had walked pinch hitter Christian Shepherd.

HMH radiology receives ACR...

The HMH radiology department can add another feather to its cap. The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services received re-accreditation by the American College of Radiology. The program is accredited for Hitachi Open MRI for adult and pediatric patients.
