The fiscal court will advertise for bids on the replacement of three county bridges in the next month, but the specifications will leave open whether the bridges need to be replaced with concrete or metal.
Despite playing without three starters, the Harrison County Fillies made short work of the Saints of Maysville St. Patrick Thursday winning 9-1.

Sept. 9 -- At 1:49 p.m. a non-injury accident occurred on U.S. 27 less than a mile from the city limits. Cameron Shannon was traveling south on U.S. 27 North when she slowed down to turn left into the Harrison Vet Clinic. Pamela Hopkins of Plainview Lane, traveling behind her, could not stop in time and struck the car in the rear.
3M is celebrating 45 years of manufacturing in Cynthiana. In 1969, 3M moved its first production equipment into a small tobacco warehouse on Church Street, close to the current plant location. Later that year, 3M purchased 52 acres and began construction on the current plant on New Lair Road.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is encouraging producers who have suffered eligible disaster-related losses to act to secure assistance by Sept. 30, 2014, as congressionally mandated payment reductions will take place for producers who have not acted before that date. Livestock producers that have experienced grazing losses since October 2011 and may be eligible for benefits but have not yet contacted their local Farm Service Agency (FSA) office should do so as soon as possible.

Activities were halted on the Hilltop after a bomb threat was called in on bus no. 14. Nothing suspicious was found by Sgt. Mark Burden of the Kentucky State Police. No bomb squad was needed. Bus 14 is a spare bus, used only for replacement and field/athletic trips.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announces that starting Sept. 2, 2014, farmers can enroll in the new dairy Margin Protection Program. The voluntary program, established by the 2014 Farm Bill, provides financial assistance to participating farmers when the margin – the difference between the price of milk and feed costs – falls below the coverage level selected by the farmer.
