Fillies complete youth camp,...

“This was by far the largest turnout for a camp in my time as coach,” said Coach Kim Furnish. “I am very pleased that our numbers continue to grow.”  
This statement was made after 45 girls attended the Fillies Basketball Camp held last week Wednesday through Friday.  
This camp was different as each day featured some unique type of instruction.  
Coach Jeff Kinney was Thursday’s main instructor as he taught team-specific drills to the campers.  

Dairy Goat Awareness Week June 8...

Area dairy goat breeders will celebrate Dairy Goat Awareness Week with the American Dairy Goat Association, www.adga.org during the week of June 8-15.   
The Northern Kentucky Goat Breeders Association will sponsor an information booth and free goat cheese tasting at the Harrison County Farmers Market, Flat Run Veterans Park, on Saturday, June 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You are invited to come taste the goat cheeses of Susan Miller’s Bleugrass Chevre. Bear receives Kentucky Colonel...

At the June 3 Harrison County Board of Adjustment meeting Karen Bear, chairman, was honored for her nine years of service to the Board and was presented with a Kentucky Colonel certificate. Jane Thomas, a former member and chairman of the Board presented the certificate. She has been an asset to the Board and provided many volunteer hours to serve the citizens of Harrison County. Bear was very knowledgeable about the County and led the Board as Chair in a very professional manner.

Brown purchased what was then known as the ‘Broadwell’ home, later known as the Elks’ Home, now the site of several beautiful residences (corner of Pike Street, Clifton Road). At that time it was an ideal location for that which it afterwards became, ‘Harrison Female College’ as the old residence had many rooms of ample size and the surrounding grounds were spacious and well shaded.”

Bullock earns top 5 spot at...

Cheyenne Lily Bullock turned heads on June 1 and 2 when she attended the National American Miss Kentucky State Pageant in Louisville, Ky. She competed in the Princess Division which included 50 girls from all across the state, and made it into the top five in her age division. She has been invited to compete in the National All-American Miss Pageant in Anaheim, Calif. in November.

Academic briefs

Olivia Mae Faulkner graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry on May 5, 2013 with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine.
Faulkner is a 2009 graduate of Western Kentucky University and a 2005 Harrison County High School graduate.  She is the daughter of Dr. Bill and Jackie Faulkner of Cynthiana. She will be practicing in New Bern, N.C.

Why do they play at Whitaker...

All of us here in Harrison County are happy that the Thorobreds are once again where they belong, that is in the state tournament.  
As I have often said about the Cardinals being in first in the central division of the National League it is their rightful place and the state tournament is Harrison County’s rightful place.  
But why do they play at Whitaker Bank Park?  

Funniest Person Contest to be...

The historic Rohs Opera House looks to have audiences’ funny bones going crazy with its first-ever Funniest Person contest.

Starting on Friday, July 12, Rohs Opera House will host a contest to decide who is the funniest in Harrison County.
