Violence in sports, how long...

I spent Monday this week working in Indiana, which gives me a lot of time to listen to the radio while in the car.
I listen mainly to sports radio but now and then will venture over to the news, which generally depresses me so I don’t listen for any long periods of time.
Monday the news had quite a bit about the soccer official who was killed when an irate player hit him in the side of the head and killed him on April 27 in Utah.

Technical students inducted into...

Technical schools across the nation nominate students for admission into the National Technical Honor Society.
At Harrison ATC, only one student per program is nominated for admission to the NTHS and must meet a series of rigorous standards. Each candidate must have a 95 percent attendance rate, maintain a 3.0 grade point average, demonstrate school and community involvement, and compose a thoughtful essay describing their future career plans.

Daniel Josiah Lee “Danny Jo”...

Daniel Josiah Lee “Danny Jo” Wilson was born to Thomas and Layla Wilson of Cynthiana on Jan. 7, 2013 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
He weighed 8 lbs. 3 oz., and is welcomed by his brother D.J. Wilson.
Maternal grandparents are Danny Dale and Zona Fryman, both of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are the late Leroy and Ruth Fryman and the late Nora Henson.

Wades to celebrate 1st...

Wesley and Jessika Wade of Harrison County will celebrate their first year anniversary on May 30. They were married on May 30, 2012 in Hawaii.
Wesley is the son of Gerald and Bonie Wade of Cynthiana. He is a graduate of Harrison County High School and is employed by Solution Dispersion.
Jessika is the daughter of Libby Zimmerman and Bobby Neace and the granddaughter of Janice Moore, all of Harrison County. She is a graduate of Harrison County High School and is employed by Redd-Brown and Williams Construction Company.
They reside in Bourbon County.

Academic briefs

Brooke Razor graduated Summa Cum Laude on Sunday, May 5 from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a minor in Philosophy.  
Razor has received a full tuition merit scholarship from Villanova Law School, and will begin her studies in Philadelphia in the fall.
She is the daughter of Bow and Lynne Switzer and a 2009 graduate of Harrison County High School.

Track teams finish season strong...

The Harrison County High School Thorobreds and the Fillies completed the 2013 track regular season last week with a Tuesday meet at Scott County and a Saturday meet in Lexington at Bryan Station.
The Thorobreds will be going into the regional this Saturday with a couple of strong showings behind them as they won the 11-team boys’ meet at Scott County and finished fourth in the 11-team meet on Saturday.
Saturday’s meet had four of the Lexington schools as well as Scott County and Western Hills among others in the highly competitive meet.

At my church we talk a lot about beauty.
The ancient Greeks and the early Christians elevated three prime virtues: truth, goodness and beauty, and as Russian novelist Dostoevsky wrote, “Beauty will save the world.”
A longing for beauty is primal. A lack of it brings despair.

If the weather holds, the Class of 2013 will walk across the stage at the Athletic Complex to grab the piece of a paper that gives them admission to the rest of their lives.
