Galley Proof Press. A galley proof is a printer’s proof made from type in a galley to permit correction of errors before the type is made up in pages. (Gift of Wayne Stafford). A galley is a long narrow tray for holding type which has been set. Galley and type are not on display here. To make a proof the type is placed in a galley and the galley is placed on the flat bed. The type is inked with a brayer (small roller). A sheet of paper is placed over the type. The large felt covered roller is rolled over the paper. Information was provided through Doug Price’s research. To see this item visit the Cynthiana-Harrison County Museum.
