  • Don’t be taken in by callers who offer nothing but...SCAMMER-TIME

Residents barely get through one scam alert before another begins.
The best advice in any phone call, letter or door-to-door salesman is ‘if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, it’s probably a duck.’

  • Mothers, teachers and a southern Kentucky legacy

Every day of every week of every month is proclaimed as something special.
So far this month we’ve already celebrated National Prayer Day and Loyalty Day on May 1st.
Wednesday was National Roast Leg of Lamb Day. No kidding.
Friday, May 9, will be set aside to honor military spouses and of course Sunday is Mother’s Day.
It’s been eight years since my mother died and I miss her every day.
Betty Sosby, my mother, taught third grade at Florence Elementary in Boone County for as many years as I remember of her teaching career.

  • Thank you to the Fillies for Cancer Awareness game

    To the editor:
I want to say “Thank you” to the Harrison County Fillies Softball team, Coach Christine Garnett, her staff and the awesome young ladies who play with so much heart. They recently played their game for Cancer Awareness, contributing to Hospice. I had the honor of being a part of this, sharing a special memory with my granddaughter Courtney Newsom, #25.
The whole team presented me with a ball with all their names on it, all of those who participated hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for your support!

  • Reader endorses Steve Moses for Judge-Executive

    To the editor:
I am writing in support of Stephen Moses for Judge Executive.
Being a fairly new resident of Harrison County gives me a different perspective than someone who’s lived here for many years.  This is such a beautiful area with many assets and wonderful people living here.  This county is blessed compared to many in the country today.  But I do believe it needs someone in the leadership position that is looking to the future, not resting on past achievements.

  • Harsh winter leads to new needs at Food Pantry

    To the editor:
I must apologize for being lax in this year for not keeping our community abreast of the status of the Food Pantry. The old saying “no news is good news” is true in this case.
First, I want to thank each of you for making our 2013 Christmas Boxes a big success. We were able to make up 424 boxes. I have said it before and I say it again, this community amazes me.
