  • Sister's nuptials lead to yearning for big wedding one day

My older sister is getting married next month. This will be her second wedding since I’ve been single. For those who like to keep score, it’s 2-1, with her in the lead.
Plus, my “wedding” when I got married at the age of 18 didn’t really count. It wasn’t a big, fancy wedding, to say the least. It was just the two of us, at home, in our jeans, and we had to go knock on the next door neighbors’ door and ask them to be our witnesses.

  • What can we do about heroin in our community?

For several years Kentucky had seen widespread prescription drug abuse that soared to epidemic levels. But thanks to public education, safe drug disposal programs, enforcement and legislative action, the Commonwealth is seeing a decrease in prescription drug abuse.
Unfortunately, many individuals who previously abused prescription medications, specifically those classified as opioids, are now switching to heroin – an opioid that is cheaper and increasingly more available.

  • Take advantage of county schools’ feeding program this summer

As far back as I can remember, the Harrison County Board of Education has supported the Summer Feeding Program.
And, as far back as that, I can remember heading down to River Road Park around noon one day after school was dismissed for the summer.
There have always been eager faces waiting for the day’s nutritious fare.
It’s an outstanding opportunity for families to grab a quick lunch for their children. It’s only for kids—not the parents.

  • Honor Flight trip drives home true meaning of Memorial Day

How did you spend your Memorial Day? Did you spend time with friends and family;  display your flag; tidy up the grave of a family member? Did you stop and think of the true meaning of Memorial Day and ask yourself, “Did I do enough? Can I do more?”
Though I have always observed Memorial Day in the usual ways, I have not always stopped to think about its true purpose – to recognize and remember the heroes who have fought and died to keep us free.
