    To the editor:
For those who haven’t heard, Washington State recently passed two laws. They legalized gay marriages and legalized marijuana. The fact that gay marriage and marijuana were legalized on the same day makes perfect sense.
Read Leviticus 20:13: “If a man lies with another man they should be stoned.” Apparently we just hadn’t interpreted it correctly before.
Live by the spirit and do not seek to gratify the desires of the flesh and live by the laws of nature, which will encourage true life.

April 10-16 is National Volunteer Week and every single volunteer deserves our appreciation and grateful acknowledgement.  Across the United States, an army of trained volunteers – more than 430,000 – gave more than 19 million hours of service last year to care for hospice patients.

  • FRANKFORT FOCUS with State Representative Tom McKee

As the General Assembly wrapped up work on Friday, the next-to-last day of this year’s legislative session, the focus understandably turned to April 12, when legislators will return after a brief veto recess.
Traditionally, the session’s last day is set aside just to consider whether to enact any bills or resolutions that the governor may have rejected.  This year, however, the House and Senate will also use that time to hopefully adopt a two-year budget to run state government.

  • Matt Bevin...the good and the bad

It’s way too early to pass judgment on Kentucky’s new governor, Matt Bevin, as he’s barely three months into his first term.
His hokey, ill-conceived and condescending social posting  several weeks ago, left a bad taste in most people’s mouths, Democrat and Republican, alike.
Let’s set the stage. He had released his first biennium budget proposal as governor. He knew that it would rankle the democrats in the democratic-controlled House of Representatives as it did what he promised, slashed state spending.

    To the editor:
I was disappointed in the decision of the magistrates of Harrison County to approve the needle-exchange program. I was pleased to see that two of the eight represented me and many others who oppose this measure. I was surprised that it passed at all. Bourbon County considered it, and they nixed it.

  • A State of the City Address from Mayor Smith

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”  Lao Tzu, Chinese philosopher
I would like to take a moment to thank the citizens of Cynthiana for all the support I have received during my first year as mayor.
The journey to improve and grow Cynthiana seems like a thousand mile journey with many ups and downs along the way. I’m so proud of our current commission for stepping up and tackling some big problems.
