    To the editor:
A great lady, Dorothy Mooney, passed away last week.
She was loved by us all. I can’t imagine what it will be like not seeing her walk all over town. She was a customer of mine, but more like a mother to me, and was a volunteer for everything good. She was everywhere, doing everything, age or illness never slowed her down. We will miss you, Miss Mooney. My condolences to your family.....

  • Democracy is not passive, I choose to participate

On Saturday, Jan. 21, 53 women from Kentucky and Ohio came together to travel to Washington, DC, to take part in the largest protest event in US history – the Women’s March.
Harrison County was well represented on this trip as mothers and daughters, aunts and nieces, old friends and new joined to take an active role in our democracy.

  • Rum Sauce and Bar Stools

Living as we do here in the heart of Kentucky, long known as the state with the best whiskey, fastest horses and most beautiful women, we have long had a dual attitude about alcohol. While it is fine to make it, imbibing has had some complications.
There has always been a long list of folks who should not use strong spirits: women, children, teachers, preachers, drivers--well you get the point.
However, I know of two incidents in my family where demon rum with all its restrictions was allowed to cross the line.

The Cynthiana City Commission tabled the second reading of its proposed no parking ordinance on Pike Street Tuesday night.
At odds is the tight squeeze on Pike Street where it’s closest to the First United Methodist Church and Church Street.
Cynthiana Police Chief Ray Johnson said at a previous meeting that there have been a few incidents of parked vehicles being clipped  by passing motorists.
    That’s a problem.
However, it’s not the only problem.
