  • Videos being used as smoke screen in fight against abortion

Most people don’t like being manipulated, or having smoke thrown in their eyes.
Which is why the recent efforts to have Planned Parenthood de-funded are really concerning.
In essence, what these activists are doing is turning heavily edited, inflammatory video footage involving a few individuals against an entire organization, and, in the end, all women.

  • ‘Callous’ videos a symptom of easy access to abortion

“It’s been years since I’ve talked about compensation [for the sale of fetal body parts], so let me just figure out what others are getting . . . . If [the price for selling the body parts is] low, we can bump it up.  I want a Lamborghini.”

  • Patience, courtesy needed during road repairs

If you have school-age children and didn’t know that school began on Monday, your kids are a bit tardy.
As usual, the Cynthiana Democrat news staff headed out with cameras in hand to grab the first-day-of-school photographs on Monday morning.
For the most part, we found the students attacking the day with as much gusto as a kindergarten child can on the first day of school.

  • Berry Festival to be revived this year

    To the editor:
After a five year absence of a Berry KY Festival, we are once again reviving the 30-plus years of getting friends, family and all who wish to come to our 2015 Festival.
The Committee has planned to have a baby show and a toddler buggy show hosted by Katie Himes, Miss Kentucky USA.  There will, also, be many activities, vendors, various foods, gospel and country music and too much to mention in this letter.  Just watch the Democrat and Shopper for the full list of activities

  • Officials have dropped the ball with Cedarbrook plant

I’ve written quite a few columns since I’ve been with the Democrat. So far, I’ve used the opportunity to write about myself, or my family, so that everyone can get to know me a little better. And I will continue to do so. The time has come, however, to write about an issue going on in the community.

  • Cynthiana roundabout is the entrance to the city

    To the editor:
I have concerns about the trash, weeds, tall grass, and lack of upkeep at the roundabout and adjoining areas which have become unsightly; even some of the banks are graded too steep to mow.
Most people driving to Cynthiana must use the roundabout, and the approach to the entrance is a sight that is definitely nothing to be proud of.
We are trying to promote tourism and bring in new industry.
