    To the editor:
As a healthcare worker I have closely followed the needle exchange debate in my hometown of Cynthiana. After reading the comments of John Chamberlain in last week’s edition I feel compelled to respond to his comments.
It is inconsistent for Chamberlin to say he stands “against anything that furthers a vice” unless he also stands against making cars that can exceed the speed limit to prevent the vice of speeding.

  • What’s in a title?

“What’s in a name”? Shakespeare once asked. “Would a rose by another name smell as sweet . . .”
We can ask the same question about the book title of one of our local authors, Marilynn Bell. If you remember Marilynn once surprised herself, but not the judges, when she won the Lane Award for the Most Outstanding Entry in the college writing contest.

  • Dear local governments, thanks for your quick response

From the standpoint of the newly approved needle exchange program being a health issue rather than a drug issue, I applaud the local governing bodies for their forward thinking.
In my experience covering government meetings, I must say that I was surprised by the Cynthiana City Commission’s and Harrison County Fiscal Court’s consent to back the program. I, apparently unfairly, expected the city and county leaders to drag their collective feet.

    To the editor:
I was disappointed in the decision of the magistrates of Harrison County to approve the needle-exchange program. I was pleased to see that two of the eight represented me and many others who oppose this measure. I was surprised that it passed at all. Bourbon County considered it, and they nixed it.
