  • Customers not made aware of arbitrary hike in phone bill

    To the editor:
Has your AT&T phone bill risen lately? Mine did, by $2. It was due to an arbitrary increase from $19 to $21 for my long distance plan, Unlimited Nationwide Calling Advantage.

  • New court members seem to feel right at home

So far, the new faces in the Harrison County Fiscal Court seem to be complimenting the veteran members.
Covering Harrison County Fiscal Court meetings has allowed me to see first-hand just how well the new court members are gelling with veteran members.
It has often been said that new members of any committee or board go through a transition phase where they are just trying to find their niche.
However, as a spectator of the meetings, I have found that the new members are fitting in quite well and have few signs of growing pains.

  • There are two sides to the Cynthiana by-pass issue

I have mixed emotions about the by-pass around Cynthiana that’s set to get underway this summer.
I can see the benefits for those who commute north and south to work and school. When you talk about spending two hours of your day on the road, cutting out 10 or 15 minutes of one-way drive time would be a big deal.

  • Clarifying gossip

    To the editor:
I recently had the honor to preside over the funeral services for Melissa  Hall.  In my eulogy I read a letter written to me by Melissa. However, I was  apparently not clear about when the letter was written causing some people to believe and gossip things that are not true. I just wanted to clarify that  the letter was written to me around one year before her death.
To the family, please know that I am still praying for you often, and to those overcome with the need to gossip, know that I am praying for you too.

  • Theft investigation

    To the editor:
Someone walked into our home and stole our safe. Everything we had of value was in it. I called the Sheriff’s Office and Steve McCauley wrote up the report. He never came to our home to look for evidence. He just said if he finds anything he would call. You can’t investigate a crime without going to the crime scene.
