  • Seperate the "wants" from the "needs"

How many of you out there know the difference between a “want” and a “need?”
Sometimes I struggle with the difference when my stubbornness kicks into gear.
Anyway, last week was my typical week. However, I do recall one event that seemed to consume me on every level possible.
    I am a movie guru.
I have enjoyed watching movies since I was very young, according to my parents and as indicated by some of my grades from college.

  • Chambers lived life to the fullest with no regrets

    To the editor:
Recently in the May 23, 2013, edition of The Cynthiana Democrat, I read a very disturbing and sickening article. Myself, as well as many other citizens (not just of Harrison County) were ashamed of your newspaper after reading the article in regards to the death of our young friend, William Chambers.

  • No compasion in school systems

    To the editor:
I am Austin Munoz. I am a child of God, a servant of the risen King. I am married to Harrison County native, Beth Cox, who attended Harrison County schools and graduated from here and we have three children who attend Harrison County schools. I am pastor of Wareagle Ministries Praise and Worship Center in Berry, which is a non-denominational church that teaches and preaches the entire Bible, front to back.

  • “Vote of No Confidence”

    To the editor:
Recently, nine members of the Cynthiana Police Department, along with two former officers filed a “Vote of No Confidence” with the city commission.
This document stated that the officers felt like the chief of police was incompetent, neglecting his duties and abusing his authority.

  • Relay for Life, June 14

“Save the date” announcements are popular for young couples to send out in advance of a formal wedding announcement.
Often in a magnetic form, which is good for refrigerator posting, it helps the potential attendee remember the upcoming event every time they go to the fridge for a snack or soda.
With that said, here’s my “Save the date:”
    Friday, June 14
    Ingles Stadium
    7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

  • Summer Carnival at Antioch Mills Christian Church

    To the editor:

  • Articles were insensitive

    To the editor:
Regarding Becky Barnes’ article on the front page of the Democrat. She reported on two of our citizens.
Maybe she thought Obie was a local character. I think he was a warm human who deserved better than that article.
Also, William Chambers’ article was so insensitive.
The information in these two articles could be found in the records section of the paper. It should not have been posted on the front page.

  • Remember Chambers’ last generous act of kindness

    To the editor:
No matter what the circumstances of a persons death, we need to be sensitive and respectful to a grieving family.
William Thomas Chambers was an organ donor. His death enabled at least four young people to have a chance for life. Let that generous act of kindness be our memory of William Thomas.
