To the editor:

I want to thank the firefighter that checked my car seat and showed my parents the correct way to keep me safe. I forgot to ask his name, but he explained to us what kind of car seat was best for my height and weight. He took his time and made sure that we understood. All of us appreciated it so much. After we all talked we went to Wal-Mart and bought me the correct kind of booster seat. It is so cool and I feel like a big boy in it. I'm only three years old but I can pretend I'm a firefighter in my new seat.

What began as a dream talked about over morning coffee at the Cynthiana Fire Department finally became a reality Saturday with the first annual Cyn City Music Festival. The fire department's Relay for Life team hosted the five-band outdoor concert on a picturesque afternoon at the Handy Farm Park.

We're doing the happy dance at my house these days.

It started when, one day last week, I went to turn on the TV in the living room and it popped, which is never a good sound coming from a major appliance or electronic device.

My husband had been pining for a flat-screen, high-definition TV for months and I've balked at the idea. Our TV was good enough.

But that morning "good enough" became "dead." Later that day Barry called me at work and said, "Before you start screaming, hear me out."
