  • Sign petition to stop Freedom of Choice Act and abortion

    To the editor:

A bill called the “Freedom of Choice Act” (FOCA) is presently in the works of passing through Congress.

FOCA is a pro-abortion agenda, proposing the following:

•Taxpayers will be required to fund abortion for any reason.

•Hospitals and healthcare professionals will be required to provide abortions, in addition to abortion clinics.

•Employer health insurance plans will be required to cover abortion.

•Organizations that perform and promote abortions will be funded.

  • ‘The sleep of death is not the end, but only the beginning’

Only my friend Tara could pull off a boisterous, joyful memorial service.

Her mother, Kaye Reynolds, died May 30 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Her memorial service was July 3.

Tara had requested that people dress joyously colorful, so there were a lot of reds and greens and blues. Her mother had a flamboyant spirit, much like Tara.

  • Kelat community has been overlooked for too long

    To the editor:

I have lived in the small community of Kelat for 23 years. I raised my children here and three of my grandchildren have lived here most of their lives. Has Cynthiana forgot this is a part of their county too?

  • Pastor visits former Cynthiana Presbyterian minister in Ohio

    To the editor:

During the recent Fourth of July weekend, as the nation celebrated Independence Day, my wife and I were compelled to visit Rev. Larry Bowald and his family in their new town of residence - Canfield, Ohio. We could not think of a better way to spend such a festive occasion than with a family that is so dear to the Cynthiana community and us.

  • Citizens must educate themselves to protect freedoms

    To the editor:

I am just your run-of-the-mill average citizen and lately, I have found a need to be more informed about my country; past, present, and its possible future. I guess my grandchildren have something to do with it. I want them to grow up in a free and prosperous America, with all its advantages and individual freedoms, as I did.

  • Parking on sidewalks is prohibited, says police chief

As I come to work everyday and as I patrol around town, I see several vehicles parked up on the sidewalk in front of their homes.

The question that I ask myself is, “Why do people do that and do they realize that parking on sidewalks is prohibited?”

  • A life with security often means a life without God

A few weeks ago I heard a sermon about wisdom.

I wisely took notes, then lost them and forgot much of what the pastor said.

But I do remember one thing. He said God came to King Solomon in a dream and said he could ask for anything and he’d give it to him...

Solomon acknowledged God’s great kindness to his father, King David, and now to him as king of Israel.

  • Abandoned vehicles on city streets are violation of a city ordinance

An abandoned motor vehicle is any motor vehicle which remains unattended and unmoved on any public street, highway, right-of-way, or on any other public property for a period of more than three days, or which remains unmoved on any private property without a current license plate for a period of more than seven days, if the vehicle has been damaged or is deteriorated so extensively that it has no value but for salvage or the vehicle or any parts thereof are placed on jacks, blocks or other supports, or one or more parts of the vehicle necessary for lawful operations are missing.
