  • North thanks fire department

    To the editor,

    This letter is to thank all the members of our local Cynthiana Fire Department for answering my 911 call so quickly Sunday night Nov. 23rd.

    They searched and searched my home to find what they said was methane gas order filling my basement and coming upstairs.

    They found where it was coming from behind a closed in wall. They advised me not to stay over nite in the home.

    By it being in the basement I chose to stay at home and open windows. And to stay with my two cats who came upstairs and warned me something was wrong in the family room.

  • Tax dollars going to waste

    To the editor, 

    I would like to know why Cynthiana does not have a dog warden? Harrison County has one.

    The reason I am concerned about this is for months I have had a problem with my neighbor’s dogs. The police chief told me the problem would be taken care of months ago, the code enforcement officer tells me something different every time I talk to him and suggested I call the dog warden,  who laughed and told me that he works for the county, and they were “passing the buck.”

  • Memorial award continues to assist graduating seniors

    To the editor,

    In June of 2006 my parents were enjoying their retirement with a trip to Las Vegas, Nev. While they were there I received a phone call from my uncle stating that my mother, Carol Smith, had been taken to the hospital. I, along with my brother and sister, flew out to Las Vegas. The next day my mother passed away.

  • Obama lacks moral values

    To the editor,

    I did not vote for Obama. It wasn’t because of his race. Some of my dearest friends have different color skin than I. James Custard and his extended family are among those lifelong friends that I value.

    I did not vote for him because of his lack of moral values. On the horror of abortion, early term or partial birth, his voting record is documented. He served in Illinois, Check it out. I did.

  • Newspaper headline prejudice

    To the editor,

    I was shocked by the large headline on the front page of our local paper, But I should not have been, having lived here all my life.

    Cynthiana and Harrison County, I could have told you the answer to that a year ago. A lot of our county residents are racists and prejudiced. You would think by this generation, it would be better, but it seems to be getting worse, even in the schools.

    In this time of flux and uncertainty, when our nation and our neighbors are in turmoil, searching for peace and prosperity or just a chance to catch a breath, you remain constant and sovereign.

    You are King over our sorrows as well as our joys. You are Lord over all that concerns us in the daytime, all that keeps us awake at night, all that drives us to our knees. In that, we can rest and trust and renew our strength. In that, in your sovereignty, we can give you thanks.

  • Arena closing after 17 years; family recalls its history

    To the editor:

    On Sept. 21, 1991, 17 years ago, the C&W Horse Show Arena held its first show. The show was sponsored by the Cynthiana Jaycees with a wonderful response. One hundred horses came to take part in the show classes, games, and running events for all ages.

    This was the beginning of a fun filled adventure that has produced many wonderful memories for us.

    We met people from all over Kentucky and into Ohio, watched children learning to ride and showing their horses. Now we see those children’s little ones riding.
