Today's Opinions

  • Some things are left better off not posted

Recently tragedy struck Harrison County when a 14-year-old girl took her life.
While the details of the incident are not all that important at this time, thoughts and prayers go out to those friends and family members who will forever be burdened with the untimely loss.
As for my main point of this week’s column, I would like to focus toward what I feel continues to be an ongoing issue among society.
This week I unfortunately came across a rather lengthy and pointless discussion thread on Facebook.

  • Why is banking becoming a problem for me?

    To the editor:
I have a problem that no one in this town seems to know why?
I do not carry a large amount of money on me. I carry checks. Both Kentucky Bank checks and checks I order supporting ASPCA to help advertise for neglected and mistreatment of animals.
Both type of checks have routering number and bank account number, name, driver license, address and telephone number.
There are two stores that will not take my checks.
I have lived here in Cynthiana for over 50 years. As the widow of Charlie North who was a commissioner.

  • Vote "no" on Chandler

    To the editor:
Ben Chandler has spent more time learning about global warming in luxurious and exotic locales than he has ever spent or will spend anywhere near a coal mine. And he didn’t have to pay for one cent of it. Most was provided by taxpayers, the rest by environmental groups anxious to shutter our coal-fired power.

  • Praise to the HCHS football team

    To the editor:
Does the final score on the scoreboard determine the winner? Regardless of the final score Friday night the Harrison County Thorobreds walked away winners. In a game that was David vs. Goliath the Thorobreds played with heart and made their fans proud! What a fine group of young men who have faced many trials this season and still gave it their all. What a wonderful reflection on Coach Carr and the coaching staff. When all is said and done, no matter how the season ends, these boys are winners in the game of life.
