  • Writer sheds light on community's good people

    To the editor:
In a world where you are more likely to hear about some sort of negativity, I am writing this to shed a little light on the good people of this community.
Strangers, who brought a some joy to my life. I have meant to write this letter since this summer, but of course time got away from me and it fell to the back of my “to do” list. It is unfortunate, but it happens. Then, an another act of pure kindness reminded me that “thank you” isn’t said often enough.

  • Fighting over a duck dinner for the holidays

Before I get started on the subject of my column for this week, I wanted to take a moment to express my belated congratulations to the cast and crew of Rohs Opera House’s production of “A Christmas Story” earlier this month.
I meant to say something in my column two weeks ago, but I lost my train of thought amid all that talk of chocolate.
Better late than never, I guess, but my hostdaughter and I were thoroughly entertained by the performances of the entire cast, particularly the performances of the children.

  • Dear Santa

My name is Ethan. I have been a good boy this year. I would like to have hot wheels, video games, a Mario DS game. I want a new Jake and the neverland pirates movie. I want a lego Pirates ship that I can build. I also want a new dump truck and a Nabi tablet and a wagon with ramps and a toy ford Ranger to pull it and some new coloring books and crayons.
    Love,
    Ethan Wright

  • Absence of Christmas parade leaves void

I can’t say I missed standing out in the rain and cold Saturday afternoon to cover the Christmas parade.
However, I did miss seeing the excitement in the faces of the children who would ride by and wave enthusiastically for the camera.
Cynthiana’s Christmas parade was postponed or cancelled for the second time in as many Saturdays due to weather. Well, this last Saturday’s cancellation had some to do with weather but more to do with some of the entries pulling out.

  • Operation Christmas Child Team sends ‘big ole’ thank you

    To the editor:
The Harrison County Operation Christmas Child Team wants to send out a big ole thank you to our community.
Once again Harrison County arose to the occasion. This  year’s goal  of 3,000 filled shoe boxes was met and exceeded. With the help of volunteers, churches and individuals our county made a total 3,115 boxes.

  • Dragging Cynthiana into the debate on International Chocolate Superiority

For the most part, the European teenagers that my wife and I have hosted through EF over the last five years are not very demonstrative when it comes to expressions of national pride.
We were told by our regional coordinators to expect this.
