    To the Editor:
It’s no secret that during the time that Bill Clinton was making a speech for a Russian business for a fee of $500,000, that his wife, then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was working a deal to give Russia 20% of American uranium.
Now what do you call that?  Coincidence?
Recently the Cynthiana City Commissioners voted to allow Sunday alcohol-by-the-drink sales.

Editor’s note: The following was addressed to members of SAG, Ned’s Bike Night and all riders.

    To the editor:
On behalf of Leesburg Christian Church and Cumberland Mountain Outreach, we just want to say that you guys are awesome. We have always known this and it was confirmed again [recently] that bikers have big hearts. Words cannot express how grateful we are for all the toys given, your planning, time invested and sacrifices made to make this an amazing and successful toy drive.
We enjoyed spending the afternoon with each of you.

I attended a Lion’s Club meeting on Tuesday at noon and interviewed Shon Walker that evening. Those two events made me realize something that is probably true for most of us.
Our middle school and high school years probably were the best years of our lives.
At least, those are the years that are most nostalgic for us and created memories that have endured for a lifetime.

    Times they are a changin’.
Kelly and I have been married for 32 years and had established some long-standing traditions for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I say “had,” because at least one of those traditions has changed this year.
For the first few years of our marriage, we punished ourselves on Thanksgiving Day by taking in two Thanksgiving feasts. One in Maysville with the Calverts and one in Cynthiana with the Kendalls.

It’s Thanksgiving. There is much to be thankful for all year round, but we always culminate that into one weekend. Because our forefathers chose this Thursday to collectively be thankful, this is when we gather with family and friends.
We cook, we eat, we (at least some) watch football and the rest allow the tryptophan to do its damage.
I have these observations from years of experience.

  • Ice skating in Cynthiana and Shop Small

Have you ever been ice skating?
Is this something on your bucket list?
    Well, guess what!
Cynthiana Main Street has exciting news, we are bringing an ice skating rink to downtown Cynthiana. In December, we are hosting an Ice Skating Extravaganza.
As you know, I am all for bringing people into downtown and offering things for kids to do. This year, with the support of several businesses and organizations, we were able to make this happen.

Many thanks to Betsy Smith for filling in for me during my latest health “issue.”
Betsy is a talented writer and penned some really interesting articles!
She has set the bar much higher for me...gee thanks, Betsy!
Thanks also to my workmates and bosses at the Cynthiana Democrat for being patient with me while I continue to recover.
It would have been very easy for them to simply replace me with someone else, and they didn’t do that.
They have gone over and above the call of duty.
