  • Voters encouraged to hear Bevin speak

    To the editor:
Nearly 40 years ago, as a recent college graduate, I sat with my dad one day watching the news during the 1976 presidential election season.
Since I was just beginning to tune into the emerging candidates, I was interested to see of them featured whom I had heard about, but had not yet had an opportunity to hear speak.
I listened to Ronald Reagan for just a few minutes before I was deeply impressed by his wit, confidence, clarity and common sense.

  • Local gov’ts unnecessarily stopping Handy House rehab

    To the editor,
Ridgeway, the house at the top of the Veterans Park more commonly known as  the Handy House, has been a target of the Cynthiana and Harrison County  governments for demolition for years.
This is not necessary. Every effort that anyone in the past, and now the Heritage Council, has made to improve or  protect the house has been prevented and delayed.

  • Activity-filled months ahead for Harrison County

    WANTED: Your help!
Between now and the end of the year, things are going to be hopping in Cynthiana.
We have two new ladies in leadership roles for getting and keeping Cynthiana on track.
Karey Mattox Riddell has taken over The Main Street Program with the resignation of Emily Ammerman.
And Tomi Jean Dailey Clifford officially started as the Cynthiana-Harrison County Chamber of Commerce executive director on Monday. I say “officially” because she hit the ground running even before her first day in the office.

  • Frankfort Focus

With Labor Day behind us and cooler temperatures on the way, it finally feels like fall is here, even if the calendar tells us we still have about another week to go.
For our farmers, the harvest season is where months of hard work and hopefully good luck with the weather pays off.   While significant rainfall earlier in the year made it difficult at times, there are encouraging signs that our crops are largely following their traditional trends.

  • Community missing out if Ridgeway is torn down

    To the editor:
The citizens of Cynthiana and Harrison County are missing out on an opportunity to invest in their community. We have a 7,000 square foot house in an ideal location that would make a wonderful community center.
We have the possibility of receiving over one half million dollars in capital “cash” due to tax credits for this community center. With a community center, the possibilities are endless.

  • Fear is insufficient reason to block Handy House rehab

    To the editor:
By attending the last Fiscal Court meeting, Sept. 8, 2015, I learned a few things. First, the acoustics in what used to be the second-floor courtroom are horrible. It was nearly impossible to understand what was being said by those seated around the table. One would have to read the minutes of the meeting to know exactly what had transpired, by then it’s too late to object or give constructive suggestions.
