Today's Opinions

  • Time is truly how to say ‘I love you’

Isn’t it amazing how our significant others sometimes put their agendas aside to put a smile on our face?
This week is, if you ask me, the biggest excuse for couples to blow money on one another that should be saved.
Valentine’s Day. I never really understood it and now that I am married I have grown to dislike it.
For the record, my wife does not require me to purchase a dozen roses and chocolate-covered strawberries.
Instead, she gets a bigger kick out of me leaving her alone to watch her reality television for the night.

  • We're all in this together

    To the editor:
After being born and raised in Harrison County and living here for 50 plus years I feel that I am more than qualified to voice my concerns on a subject that I am certain numerous others have witnessed to a massive degree (and am baffled as to why no grievances have been publicly voiced) . . . Litter!

  • Cynthiana will survive if everyone chips in

A few weeks ago and friend posed the question: “What are we going to do about our town?”
“Everything is closing,” said one of the ladies having lunch at Biancke’s.
I agreed and we commiserated. Up to that point, I suppose I was in denial. It didn’t seem like a “we” problem.
We talked about the bypass around Cynthiana and weighed its pros and cons, trying to determine if it will help or hinder.

  • We appreciate all the continued support

    To the editor:
To the Churches, Community and Businesses of Harrison County,

I would like to personally thank all of you who helped the Clothing Closet in the move to our new home. Many made monetary donations which helped us with the purchase of our biggest need - new underwear and socks.

  • Taxed enough already is what we are

    To the editor:

  • Slapping speeders on the hands will not solve driving issues

Well, it’s 2012 and as I sit here watching TV, I think of the people I won’t get to see this year due to death.
I listen to the news every night and hear of people dying in auto accidents.
Since Christmas, people have died on Kentucky roadways. Wrecks are termed accidents, but actually that terminology is wrong. Most wrecks should be classified as a bad decisions.
Five days a week, I drive 200-300 miles on highways and interstates. I see all those bad decisions.

  • Change your ways or die on the vine!

    To the editor:
I do not understand the banner at the courthouse. Is it a plea or is it a threat?
People driving through town must think, “what losers the merchants must be to put up such a banner.”
We live in a capitalistic society. To succeed you must offer a good product or service at a fair price with good service.
When citizens get gouged by larcenous gas prices sooner or later they will go elsewhere and while there will go shopping.
