  • Food Pantry low on funds

    To the editor:
    It is time for an update on the food pantry. The pantry has been doing real well through the past two months but with school being out and the recession being bad, it has finally caught up with us and we are now feeling the pinch.
    We have seen more clients in this summer, some are new one and then some that has not been there for a year or so, with this being the case, it means we have had to purchase more. The donations, monetary and food drives have been down and it is beginning to hit us.

  • River is not a trash can

    To the editor:
    I went fishing in the river and while I was wading couldn’t help noticing trash which is always sadly expected. You can’t go anywhere in the world without seeing human garbage but what surprised me was the amount of tires in the water. I’m sure not all of them are from this county and for a lot of folks including myself every dollar counts in todays times but discarding tires in our waterways isn’t the answer.

  • Thanks for all the community support

    To the editor:
    It is an honor to follow Mike Reitz as head coach of the Thorobred basketball program. I’m optimistic about the upcoming basketball season. We recently completed a youth basketball camp and we entertained a total of 91 future Thorobred campers during the week. Community involvement enhanced our week.

  • Ask God to enlighten our minds during voting

    To the editor:
    I am a Christian, Catholic, veteran; along with my two brothers we served 54 years. Needless to say, we are proud of our heritage and we served to protect.
    However, our present president and some of the legislators, have failed to realize the contents of our constitution- “protect life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
    Look at the accomplishments of our present president and legislators who are seeking re-election.
    1) ”We are not a Christian country.”

  • Berry post office needs help

    To the editor:
    This letter concerns the patrons serviced in the 41003 zip code area. Are you aware the Berry Post Office is in jeopardy? The postal district has decided to cut the operating hours to three or four a day. The next step most probably will be to close the office all together. All the details have not been finalized as of this date.

  • Good stewards of the earth

    To the editor:
    While it is important to combat invasive and pervasive speices by spraying, unfortunatley there are casulties. One of these casulities here in the county is that we have killed off the milkweed plant which the monarch butterflies must have to survive.
    I am a certified wild-life habitat gardener from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife (among other things) and I have on hand about 500 or so seeds that need to be planted this coming spring.

  • Connersville Reunion Committee, Tribble appreciate turn out for the reunion

    To the editor:
    The Connersville Committee, Cynthiana Democrat, WCYN radio, Facebook & Connersville Alumni students got the word out for the Connersville reunion honoring Charles Tribble.
    Close to 300 were in attendance for the event. The event was a huge success because of the love and respect for Mr. Tribble by so many: not only in Harrison County, but other areas of the state he has taught. Also, in excess of $4000 was received for the Mr. Charles Tribble scholarship fund.

  • Support for Relay for Life acknowledged

    To the editor:
    As co-chair of the Relay For Life of Harrison County, I, along with Stacy Ishmael, would like to thank the community for the support given this year to the fight against cancer. Along with the American Cancer Society, we work all year long raising money that is used in Harrison County to provide services and support to our own that have been affected by cancer. By night’s end on Friday, June 22, we had raised $54,185.12.
