  • A special thanks from the heart

    To the editor:
I received my new heart in May 2011 and I’m now on my way to recovery.
I want to specifically thank our local 911 dispatchers (234-7100 for non-emergency calls) for helping us the night I got the call to get to Louisville as soon as possible for my new heart. Since I had a limited time window to reach the hospital, the local dispatchers assisted in transferring a call to the Georgetown/Scott County dispatch for assistance.

  • Harrison Co. United Community Fund

    To the editor:
The United Community Fund has been working in Cynthiana and Harrison County since 1972 to raise funds for local community needs such as assisting families in crisis, developing children, helping seniors and encouraging the health and well being of our community.

  • Support David Williams for Senate President

    To the editor:
I write in support of the gubernatorial candidacy of senate president David Williams. To those voters who consider themselves conservative, those who favor limited government, lower taxes, fewer rules and regulations, maximum economic and personal freedom, and maximum respect for the conscience of each individual person, I particularly address the following:

  • “No spraying”

    To the editor:
To quote Joni Mitchell, “Don’t it always seem to go/ya don’t know what ya got ‘til it is gone.” For example, we haven’t had water consistently here at my house for three weeks now, but I digress.

  • No more bailouts for privately owned businesses

    To the editor:
I would like to take the time to publicly thank Magistrate Frank Henson. In an age where bailouts, handouts and stimulus packages are seemingly more common, Mr. Henson is a man who sees the bottom line. I agree that the county has absolutely no business funding a private business.

  • Stop the gas gouging

    To the editor:
This past Wednesday I drove back to Cynthiana from the Ky. airport and happily noticed that the prices of gas were $3.49.9, $3.48.9 and $3.47.9 and at Shell in Alexandria it was $3.28.9 if you got your vehicle washed.
Yesterday I went to town and every station I passed still had $3.75.9, the same price as it was over a week ago when we left.

  • Donations welcomed for holiday turkeys

    To the editor:
This letter is to give the community an update on the Food Pantry. Many have ask me how it is doing, and I can say it has done well thru the summer months simply because many of you have donated produce from your gardens and other food items and money.
The months of July and August hit us pretty hard. These two months had five weeks in them, this meant we had to buy more to keep the shelves stocked and took a big chunk out of our bank account.

  • A pat on the back for not raising taxes

    To the editor:
I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Harrison County Fiscal Court for not raising our property taxes this year. They have recognized the fact that raising taxes will adversely affect our community in these hard economic times.

  • A personal thanks to the Harrison County Fiscal Court

    To the editor:
I want to personally thank the Harrison County Fiscal Court for considering the current economic condition and voting to keep the tax rate the same as last year. A lot of the surrounding counties voted to increase the tax rate. We all should be proud of the current makeup of the court, as it includes youthful vision/initiative and aged wisdom (sorry, I had to say that).

  • The making of a better tomorrow

The making of a better tomorrow

    To the editor:
There is an old saying that goes, “He who fails to plan, plans to fail.” I believe every one of us can think of a time in our lives when we looked back after a failure or unforeseen event and wished that we had planned better. I know I have.
A person who is going places and advancing in life usually has a game plan and an idea of where he or she wants to be in the future. As a city, we have to do this too.
