    Consider the following: the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Apples fall from trees. Seeds are planted in the soil to grow and produce fruit. Fish swim in water. Birds fly in the sky. Man and animals were made, male and female, to multiply and increase to enjoy this world.

  • Invaluable asset to Harrison County

    To the editor:
    Two weeks ago Cynthiana and Harrison County lost an invaluable asset with the death of Harold Slade. Harold was an original founder of the Cynthiana-Harrison County Museum and a tireless worker for historical preservation. We, the Board of Directors of the Cynthiana-Harrison County Trust, Inc., will especially miss Harold. He was our “hanger-upper” and faithful mainstay.

  • Equal Pay Day

    To the editor:
    On Tuesday, April 9, thousands of women from across the United States will join in a national day of action against unfair pay called Equal Pay Day. April is symbolic of the point into the new year that a woman must work in order to earn the wages paid to a man in the previous year. On a national level, women are paid only 78 cents for every dollar a man is paid, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. So, because women earn less, we must work longer for the same pay.

  • Love your children

    To the editor:
    Recently, I lost my youngest daughter, Tiffany Dawn Bradford Couch, to an apparent heart attack. She was the sweetest, happiest, most caring and most loving person I’ve ever known. She was a devoted wife and the most loving mother that anyone could imagine. She is missed so much by me, Randy, Zane, Zaryn and all of her family and many, many friends.

    In a criminal case, counsel protects “the fundamental human rights of life and liberty.” Our Sixth Amendment right to counsel “stands as a constant admonition that if the constitutional safeguards it provides be lost, justice will not ‘still be done.’”

  • Give credit where credit is due

    To the editor:
    Over the past few weeks many articles and editorials have been written about the recreation department. I’m disappointed in the Democrat’s coverage of recent events and the personal attacks on outgoing director Rick Chasteen.
    I am not related to Mr. Chasteen and have nothing to gain by expressing my opinion. In two editorials Ben Hyatt has singled out Mr. Chasteen and made it sound as if he didn’t do his job. I disagree.
