  • What is Obama actually wanting?

    To the editor:
    Praise should be given to Obama for his program on health. After reviewing the program to ensure better health for young and old, male and female. The initial concept is good, even though it will cost more money on our insurance policies. Some policies will increase by 40 percent to provide this coverage.
    A big concern is that this program promotes contraception in schools for youth as young as 15 years old. This encourages promiscuity among youth which is contrary to moral and natural law.

  • Lack of compassion by the Democrat

    To the editor:
    Sadly I should not have been shocked by the articles about Obie and William Chambers.
    On Aug. 1, 2000 our daughter and Andrea’s sister, Jessica Marie Simpson passed away. Jessica had Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer.
    Becky Barnes heard that Make a Wish had given Jessica a Ford Mustang. Someone from the Democrat office called me wanting to do an article about Make a Wish. I informed them that Jessica’s dad, Ed, bought the car. She said that if she could think of anything else to write about she would call.

  • Chambers family owed a public apology

    To the editor:
    I was recently reading all of the letters that were written to your paper regarding the story condemning William Chambers on the day of his death. I totally agree with everyone on this matter and I was reminded of something that happened to me two years ago. We requested for you to write about it in your paper and you refused to for fear that you would be sued for printing it.

  • Chambers lived life to the fullest with no regrets

    Recently in the May 23, 2013, edition of The Cynthiana Democrat, I read a very disturbing and sickening article. Myself, as well as many other citizens (not just of Harrison County) were ashamed of your newspaper after reading the article in regards to the death of our young friend, William Chambers.

  • No compasion in school systems

    To the editor:
    I am Austin Munoz. I am a child of God, a servant of the risen King. I am married to Harrison County native, Beth Cox, who attended Harrison County schools and graduated from here and we have three children who attend Harrison County schools. I am pastor of Wareagle Ministries Praise and Worship Center in Berry, which is a non-denominational church that teaches and preaches the entire Bible, front to back.

  • “Vote of No Confidence”

    To the editor:
    Recently, nine members of the Cynthiana Police Department, along with two former officers filed a “Vote of No Confidence” with the city commission.
    This document stated that the officers felt like the chief of police was incompetent, neglecting his duties and abusing his authority.

  • Articles were insensitive

    To the editor:
    Regarding Becky Barnes’ article on the front page of the Democrat. She reported on two of our citizens.
    Maybe she thought Obie was a local character. I think he was a warm human who deserved better than that article.
    Also, William Chambers’ article was so insensitive.
    The information in these two articles could be found in the records section of the paper. It should not have been posted on the front page.

  • Remember Chambers’ last generous act of kindness

    To the editor:
    No matter what the circumstances of a persons death, we need to be sensitive and respectful to a grieving family.
    William Thomas Chambers was an organ donor. His death enabled at least four young people to have a chance for life. Let that generous act of kindness be our memory of William Thomas.
