Our family got a scare on Tuesday, when we were told our grandson, Calvert, had been taken to the emergency room at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
Calvert is a rather ‘busy’ lad, and his genetics are only gonna make it worse, I think. Right now, he is fearless and invincible, or so he thinks.
Thoughts of him climbing somewhere, falling and breaking an arm or a leg, or sustaining a gash that required stitches, were not far-fetched.

  • Downtown clean-up this Saturday Volunteers needed

On Earth Day, Cynthiana Main Street will be hosting its first Community Clean-up day this year.
Once again, we have partnered with Bluegrass Greensource for this event.
On Saturday, April 22, from 9-11 a.m., we are asking volunteers to come downtown and join in our efforts of cleaning up Cynthiana.
As I have said in the past, we will be “Spring Cleaning.” This can include washing windows on vacant buildings, sweeping the sidewalks, picking up trash or any other projects that need attention.

There are some professions where it is critical that the job be done well.
There are no second chances or do-overs. And, while “we” (being those of us from the community) are proud of our first responders and the telecommunicators who get those responders where they need to be, it is always good to get an atta-boy.
In the recent case of the Harrison County Fire Department and Brown EMS, that validation came from a highly respected trauma doctor at the University of Kentucky’s Chandler Medical Center.

It was interesting to read this week that the greatest golfer of all time is something less than mechanically inclined.
According to his wife, Barbara, Jack Nicklaus has been disparagingly tagged with the nickname, ‘Handy Jack.’
She made the comment that her father was a whiz at repairing any and everything around the house when she was growing up and she thought that all men could do those things.
She then related a story of how she asked Jack to attach a simple shelf to the inside of a cabinet door to hold spices, cups or something of that ilk.

Way back in the early dawn of history-well not really-there was much said about the power of positive thinking. Somewhere along the line, we discarded that notion and took back up with worrying, fretting and fussing.
Since there is nothing new under the sun, I recently ran into an article explaining that there are positive health benefits that result for the human organism when that human engages in a positive, sunny outlook.
