  • Vote for America not a party

    Who did we vote for, or rather, what party did we vote for?
    I wrote this column prior to the general election results in an effort to remain non-biased, which all reporters should aspire to, especially while writing about politics.
    I am a registered Democrat, mainly because my pappaw was and I always tried to be just like him, but to say that I am a die-hard Democrat would be a misstatement.
    I recently read a few letters that were submitted supporting political parties instead of supporting political candidates.

  • Reader input needed in special projects

    It’s that time of year again where I beg and plead for reader input! See, I’m on my knees now.
    We have several projects in the works and each needs reader-involvement.
    The first and most immediate call is for recipes from local cooks for the annual Gift Guide.

  • Hard to beat a good thriller

    Oh how I enjoy a good scary movie.
    I am not referring to the types of movies where the only basis of horror is shown by a beautiful young woman, half clothed, running from a house screaming after she finds her boyfriend dead.
    I am talking about some of the great horror and scary movies that leave you afraid to go home alone in the dark.
    For the sake of time, I would like to rank only a few of the greats that have left me afraid of being alone in the dark over my short lifetime.

  • Busy community is a successful one

    I’m excited for Cynthiana and Harrison County.
    There are some good things happening here that are moving us along.
    I hear the negative comments. I know we need industry and we need jobs more than anything else, but to paraphrase my grandmother, sometimes you can make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
    We’re not going to solve world hunger here, but we can certainly take pride in the good things that are happening.

  • Some things are left better off not posted

    Recently tragedy struck Harrison County when a 14-year-old girl took her life.
    While the details of the incident are not all that important at this time, thoughts and prayers go out to those friends and family members who will forever be burdened with the untimely loss.
    As for my main point of this week’s column, I would like to focus toward what I feel continues to be an ongoing issue among society.
    This week I unfortunately came across a rather lengthy and pointless discussion thread on Facebook.

    Will the madness stop?
    Each year at election time, the commercials and news clips become almost unbearable. Well, not almost, most assuredly unbearable.
    Enough with the mudslinging!
    Tell me why I should vote for your candidate. What makes him qualified for the position?
    Also with each election comes the Democrat’s practice of accepting candidate endorsement letters to the editor.
    Highlight the word “endorsement.”
