  • FRANKFORT FOCUS A legislative perspective on the General Assembly

      FRANKFORT – The General Assembly may have wrapped up its work on April 15th, but this year’s legislative session didn’t technically end until last Wednesday, when Governor Bevin signed or vetoed the final bills the House and Senate had sent to him before adjourning.
    The great news is that we now have a budget in place for the next two years that moves Kentucky forward while addressing the serious financial problems our state retirement systems are facing.

Have you ever wandered around town to notice the detail and history within these buildings? Well now is your chance.
    Cynthiana Main Street has partnered with Farmers Deposit Bank and Harrison County Relay for Life for a Cynthiana Downtown Business Tour on Saturday, May 14. Our goal is to promote awareness of and appreciation for historic places in our community.

    The Ark Encounter, a massive Noah’s Ark replica tourist attraction in neighboring Grant County is set to open on July 7.
    Tickets will be $40 for adults, $28 for children and $31 for seniors. Parking will be $10.

    When I was a little girl and my sisters and I would argue, my mom would say to me “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
    I used to think that was the dumbest thing I ever heard. But, experience has told me there is something powerful in our words. Whether they are encouraging or destructive, our words are the compass by which we can guide the quality of our relationships and our lives.

    Last Saturday we kicked off the Triple Crown Road Race Series with the Runway 5K at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Airport.
    Although the day ended up being beautiful, it was a little chilly that morning for our runners.

  • Board puts students first in Harrison County

    It’s about leveling the playing field; about everyone in a classroom on the first day of school starting off with a brand new box of crayons.
    The Harrison County Board of Education voted Tuesday to continue to provide back-to-school school supplies for elementary and middle school students and to not charge fees for high school students.
    The price tag is $52,000.
    It’s a small price to pay.
    Superintendent Andy Dotson told board members that many students were coming to school not prepared.
