Over the years, I have written often about issues affecting our House district and the state, but I have not mentioned much about my personal life. This week, however, I would like to change that, in the hope my story will help others.
It’s that time of year when candidates will begin lining up their followers to write endorsement letters to the newspaper.
We welcome those local letters. Local being the operative word here.
We won’t accept letters of mass mailings. With email so prevalent, it’s tougher to determine “mass mailings.” However, if someone sends a letter from Indianapolis endorsing one of our presidential hopefuls, it’s pretty obvious that it’s from a mailing list.

The passage of bills that would help children with disabilities, preserve rights of victims in criminal cases, and fight for the rights of the unborn highlighted another busy week in the Senate. As Thursday marked day 40 of our 60-day legislative session in Frankfort, we are still anxiously awaiting a budget bill from our colleagues in the House.

Spring is almost here and what better way to jump start the season, than to come to downtown Cynthiana this weekend for our local merchants Spring Open House.
Many downtown businesses will be staying open late on Friday night. It will be a great night to stay in Cynthiana and support local businesses. We want to invite everyone to visit the local merchants, grab a bite to eat and stay for entertainment.

Jane Higgins gave a presentation about the Harrison County Community Fund. Without going into any great detail, the HCCF is a component fund of the Blue Grass Community Foundation.
It is a citizen-powered endowment fund consisting of gifts and bequests that are subject to a requirement that the principal be maintained intact and invested to create a source of income for the community.

We are in a presidential election year, and it is no secret that there is a strong wave of unhappiness throughout our country.
Many questions fly about concerning the source of this negativity. There are those who blame the president. Others will say it is the fault of congress. Lack of safety against terrorists assails us and we might even blame the crazy weather.
There is another force that we might consider.
