Harrison County was well represented on this trip as mothers and daughters, aunts and nieces, old friends and new joined to take an active role in our democracy.

  • Rum Sauce and Bar Stools

Living as we do here in the heart of Kentucky, long known as the state with the best whiskey, fastest horses and most beautiful women, we have long had a dual attitude about alcohol. While it is fine to make it, imbibing has had some complications.
There has always been a long list of folks who should not use strong spirits: women, children, teachers, preachers, drivers--well you get the point.
However, I know of two incidents in my family where demon rum with all its restrictions was allowed to cross the line.

The Cynthiana City Commission tabled the second reading of its proposed no parking ordinance on Pike Street Tuesday night.
At odds is the tight squeeze on Pike Street where it’s closest to the First United Methodist Church and Church Street.
Cynthiana Police Chief Ray Johnson said at a previous meeting that there have been a few incidents of parked vehicles being clipped  by passing motorists.
    That’s a problem.
However, it’s not the only problem.

The beginning of the new year is always busy for the chamber- renewing memberships, planning events, luncheons and more.
Here are a few of the things we have been up to lately for our members:
The Friday Lunch Mob is underway.
Every Friday, we feature a different restaurant with a special discount or lunch special just for our Chamber members.
It is a laid-back way to get in some extra networking time with other Chamber businesses while supporting our local Chamber restaurants.

Aren’t you just sick of the back-biting, excuse-making and political-posturing that has become the norm in Washington?
The Trump Presidency has barely gotten off the ground and the Democratic Party leadership in Congress has become what the Republican Party leadership was to President Obama...obstructionist.
I think it is interesting that national political party leanings play a rather insignificant role when transposed to local political issues.

  • ‘I know God was with me in Afghanistan’

YES! I believe God is very real. How do I know you might ask? Well before 2008 I had faith but did not know for sure. Then I was sent to fight in Afghanistan. I was assigned as a squad leader on a Route Clearance Platoon or an RCP as we calIED it in the Army. Our job was to go out and drive the roads and find IED’s. These are bombs, Improvised Explosive Devices. We would say we would rather an IED hit us than to hit one of our infantry troops whose vehicles were not as armored as ours. Little did I know how dangerous or stressful that job would actually be.
