  • County sewer district will not tax, best solution for Cedarbrook issue

The Harrison County Fiscal Court is considering setting up a sanitation district. This sanitation district would be responsible for the sewage system in Cedarbrook Subdivision. The sanitation district is a separate entity set up through the county.
Please understand, this is not a taxing district. They will not have the authority to impose a tax on anyone.

  • Harrison County shows its character in the bad times and the good

I don’t think it’s possible to write too much in praise of our crew of first responders. In fact, it’s a topic that should be addressed annually at the very least, if not more.
But after this past week, I think it’s especially important to give everyone praise for their work.
After all, this holiday week was the perfect definition of Charles Dickens’ most famous phrase —
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”

    The worst of times

  • Honoring Kentucky's veterans in U.S. history

On Friday, our nation will celebrate its independence with fireworks, food and fellowship. If Founding Father John Adams had had his way, however, all of that would be taking place on Wednesday instead.

  • Sad to say that bullying doesn’t end with age

From the my-how-time-flies file, I sent out an email this week to David Case, assistant superintendent of Harrison County schools, requesting the class assignments and bus routes for the coming school year.

  • When regulations serve a purpose

I’m disappointed I have so much room this week for my column.
After the report on Mike Aldridge’s rant at the city commission last week, I thought it might spark some contributions to the “Letters to the Editor” section.
It has been a while since I last heard someone complain about mounting regulations and government intrusion into the private sector and all the mess it makes. I think I heard the subject raised more often this past month mostly in reaction to the statewide “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign.

  • Getting lost in a small town should not be this easy

Growing up, I moved approximately every two years with my dad serving in the Navy. As I was shuffled from city to city and state to state, whether it be East Coast or West Coast, I never lived in a small town. It was always the bigger cities like Memphis, Tennessee. or Jacksonville, Florida.
