• FRANKFORT FOCUS A Legislative Perspective on the Kentucky General Assembly

As it does every year during the first full week of January, the General Assembly returned to the Capitol at noon last Tuesday, kicking off what will ultimately be 60 working days that will end in mid-April.
In even-numbered years, the biggest priority is passing a two-year budget that will run state government.

  • Safety first, even if the sun is shining

It is without fail that around this time of year the gripers begin their tiresome lamenting of the school officials who decide to cancel school.
My children are grown and have been out of school for several years. However, I remember the problems associated with finding child care on short notice or even having to take the day off myself.
    It goes with parenting.

  • Is the government trying to disarm us?

The United States Constitution is an amazing document. It is the oldest single-document constitution in the world today...pretty amazing for a country as young as ours.
It was penned by the Framers in 1787 and created a national government that was supreme to any and all state governments.
This national strength created a fear by citizens that an unchecked central government could, and probably would, trample on individual rights.
To assuage those fears and assure ratification, the Bill of Rights was added to the constitution in 1791.

In Kentucky’s early history, Christmas was festive in more ways than one.  Since many received guns and ammunition as gifts, that day was often the busiest of the year for hunting.
