  • Royal baby should not be the center of our lives

I trust that the British Secret Service will not be making its way into my home after the following article due to a concern raised about my feelings toward the royal baby.

Despite my happiness for Will and Kate giving birth to a healthy baby boy, I still am sad about the priorities of many Americans who have put their lives on hold during their anticipation for the arrival of the little nipper.

  • Leaders hiding Sunshine Law behind cloud

For years you have read my stories, columns and editorials about how different entities violated Kentucky statutes by closing government meetings when there wasn’t a valid reason behind the decision.

Recent actions of our leaders make it obvious that they don’t understand that our legislators developed the Kentucky Open Meetings Law to keep the public’s business public.

  • A special thanks to some community supporters

For some reason I feel like giving praise to a few individuals and groups in the community that often fly under the radar and do not receive the attention they so deserve.

First, major praise should be given to Austin Dacci and the many volunteers responsible for the food program at River Road Park during the summer.

  • Historic Biancke’s will no doubt rebound

Like most everyone else in Cynthiana, when the news circulated that our beloved Biancke’s Restaurant was on fire, I was deeply saddened.
I was out of town and unable to see for myself what was going on. However, initial reports were that it would be a total loss.
When Thursday dawned, however, the future looked much brighter for Mary Todd and the Biancke’s crew.
By all accounts, Biancke’s front door was like a revolving door of volunteers helping to clean up a mess left by fire, smoke and water.
It could have been much worse.
