  • Tell your legislators: Pass a fiscally responsible budget

Back in January, I submitted our budget to the state legislature. It is a fiscally responsible budget that takes the necessary steps to start repairing Kentucky’s financial foundation. It takes into consideration the fact that our administration has been left with more than $35 billion in unfunded pension liabilities. Simply put, this is money we owe, but do not have.

  • Spring Cleaning on Main Street

Spring has finally arrived. The first thing that comes to my mind is spring cleaning. For some reason, every year when spring arrives I get the notion to spring clean. I start sorting everything in the house. I tackle the kids’ rooms, cabinets, windows and anywhere else that was forgotten during the winter months.

  • Oh boy, another round of campaigning is almost here

Who, in their right mind, would ever seek any kind of political office higher than that of a magistrate or commissioner on the local level?
Elected public officials, especially in Kentucky, do their jobs for low pay. For example, members of the General Assembly are paid $188 per day, plus an additional $141 per diem, when the legislation is in session.

Each month, the Chamber holds a networking luncheon or breakfast, which is sponsored by participating business (which means its free to you, courtesy of said business). Different speakers come in to speak to Chamber members on community, state or educational happenings.

Over the years, I have written often about issues affecting our House district and the state, but I have not mentioned much about my personal life.  This week, however, I would like to change that, in the hope my story will help others.

  • Candidate-endorsement time; some restrictions apply

It’s that time of year when candidates will begin lining up their followers to write endorsement letters to the newspaper.
We welcome those local letters. Local being the operative word here.
We won’t accept letters of mass mailings. With email so prevalent, it’s tougher to determine “mass mailings.” However, if someone sends a letter from Indianapolis endorsing one of our presidential hopefuls, it’s pretty obvious that it’s from a mailing list.
