  • Fall is here and our city is ready!

Fall is here and our City is looking great. Mums have been planted and fodder shocks will be going up soon (possibly by the time this article prints).

October is another busy month for Cynthiana. Ghost walks, Thriller on Main, Fright on Pike and ArtOberFest.

I’m sure there are more events than I’ve listed, but WOW! October will be fun.

Condolences go out to the many friends and the family of former Harrison County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Roy Woodward.

Dr. Woodward took the reins of the school district at perhaps the most challenging time possible.

The community had hardly healed from the debacle that was the Dr. Wade G. Roby era.

School board meetings had to be moved to the HCHS auditorium to adequately seat the throngs of people who wanted to voice their displeasure at Roby for his actions and policies.

  • Here’s what ‘farm-to-table’ really means

This Friday night, Court Street downtown Cynthiana will be transformed to host Cynthiana Main Street’s Farm-to-Table Dinner.

Although this fundraising event is sold out, I wanted to share some thoughts behind the Farm-to-Table movement.

Have you heard of Farm-to-Table dinners? Farm-to-Fork? Seed-to-Feed?

As you know, there are many names used to describe this dinner and many ideas on what the dinner really is. I’ve tried to recap what I have learned after researching for our event.

The Daughters of the American Revolution lobbied for a week to be set aside to celebrate the U.S. Constitution  many, many years ago.

Finally, President Dwight D. Eisenhower agreed in 1956, and set aside the week of Sept. 17-23 as U.S. Constitution Week, and it has remained that way ever since.

So here we are, celebrating U.S. Constitution Week, though very few people know that we are celebrating.

The Cynthiana City Commission held a Strategic Planning Workshop two weeks ago, just before I left for vacation.

There was a lot of good discussion about where we’ve been, where we’re going and how we are going to pay for all the things that are in the mix.

When I was young, I remember getting the Sears Christmas Wish Book. I’d leaf through the pages until the book had no more corners, just rounded, soft edges.
