  • FRANKFORT FOCUS A Legislative Perspective on the Kentucky General Assembly

The holidays are a treasured time no matter where they are celebrated, but there is no doubt that they seem to be a little extra special here in the commonwealth.
For one thing, there certainly is no shortage of things to do.  Close by, the Kentucky Horse Park has been featuring its Southern Lights Holiday Festival for more than 20 years, giving families a chance to see the park filled with numerous winter-themed displays.

  • Christmas Parade and Medallion Hunt winners

Thank you to everyone who attended or participated in the 2016 Christmas Parade.
It was one of the largest (and coldest!) parade’s to date.
With 25 float entries and close to 100 units entered total, it was definitely a Christmas experience you didn’t want to miss.
Due to the amount of entries, we had to alter the route to Flat Run Veterans Park to start instead of River Road.

Like most parents and grandparents out there, watching your children and grandchildren open Christmas presents gives me much more pleasure than receiving gifts myself.
Seeing the excitement of them opening that nicely wrapped present is priceless.
I guess it goes with the territory.
Like most adults out there, at some point we all truly reach the point when we understand that it is much better to give than to receive.
I fondly remember my uncle, Lawrence McGill.

Many of you may have noticed that Kenneth Houston, the self-appointed Cynthiana street cleaner upper, has not been on the job.
Kenneth tripped in a pot hole on Second Street in October as he was walking to work and has been nursing a broken arm.
He called this week because he heard that rumors were circulating that he had cancer.
A broken arm is just enough to keep him away from cleaning streets. He said he didn’t want people to think that he was seriously ill.
Once mended, Kenneth will be back behind the broom and shovel.
