  • Your Voice Has Power

When I was a little girl and my sisters and I would argue, my mom would say to me “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
I used to think that was the dumbest thing I ever heard. But, experience has told me there is something powerful in our words. Whether they are encouraging or destructive, our words are the compass by which we can guide the quality of our relationships and our lives.

  • 75 compete in Chamber-sponsored 5K

Last Saturday we kicked off the Triple Crown Road Race Series with the Runway 5K at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Airport.
Although the day ended up being beautiful, it was a little chilly that morning for our runners.

  • Board puts students first in Harrison County

It’s about leveling the playing field; about everyone in a classroom on the first day of school starting off with a brand new box of crayons.
The Harrison County Board of Education voted Tuesday to continue to provide back-to-school school supplies for elementary and middle school students and to not charge fees for high school students.
    The price tag is $52,000.
It’s a small price to pay.
Superintendent Andy Dotson told board members that many students were coming to school not prepared.

  • Community Clean-up Day, April 22

On Earth Day, Cynthiana Main Street will be hosting its first Community Clean-up day this year.
Once again, we have partnered with Bluegrass Greensource for this event. On Friday, April 22, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., we are asking volunteers to come downtown and join in our efforts of cleaning up Cynthiana.
As I have said in the past, we will be “Spring Cleaning.”
This can include washing windows on vacant buildings, sweeping the sidewalks, picking up trash or any other projects that need attention.

  • A PROSECUTOR’S PERSPECTIVE

Some of you may have just finished watching “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” a cable television miniseries which detailed the so-called “trial of the century,” and you may be wondering what happens during a typical felony jury trial in Kentucky.

  • Don’t make me scream

If I hear another person say, “There’s just nothing to do in this town”, I think I’ll scream.
I’ve heard that for years, but have never deciphered what those people want, that Cynthiana doesn’t provide.
Certainly, a city pool for use  all year, would be nice. But that can’t be the only complaint the nay-sayers have.
What is there that these people so desperately want that isn’t offered in the Maiden City?
