  • Emmy Lou was a diva, a pest, a silly, tail-wagging pup

If I had an exotic bird as a pet, it would be more likely to outlive me.
But, I didn’t. I had an 11-year-old maltese whose name followed the family’s Wizard of Oz theme. She was tagged with Auntie Em as a puppy and that evolved into Emmy Lou over the years.
    She was a pest.
She would lick the lotion off my legs. She would get under foot while I was trying to cook. She always needed to “go out” at the most dramatic point of any television show.

The words small and big are definitely an understatement to me. I recently moved from Cynthiana, Kentucky to Orlando, Florida to attend Rollins College, where I plan on majoring in chemical engineering and then continuing to grad school at Washington University.
Towards the end of my senior year in high school I knew that I had a very big decision to make on where I wanted to further my education.

  • BBQ Throwdown a huge success

    By Stephanie Burden
    Main Street Program Director
Cynthiana Main Street’s Downtown BBQ Throwdown was a huge success and a lot of fun.
Last Saturday as part of the Cynthiana Super Saturday, Main Street hosted our first bar-b-que cook off.  We had five local participants bring their best bar-b-que to town.
Who knew we had so many delicious bar-b-ques in the county.
The public got to “vote” for their favorite bar-b-que and it sure wasn’t any easy choice.  Ultimately, only the top three could win.

  • Moving forward, one step at a time

    By James Smith
    Mayor
What a busy year the City of Cynthiana has had so far.  We have become the busiest little town in the state.  Everywhere I go, city officials from other cities are asking me how we’ve turned our city around so quickly.
I tell them, “We’ve got good people who love our town and are working hard to turn it around!”

  • Peaceful protests have their place, even in Trump’s America

For 27 years, every school day that I taught, began with either the National Anthem or the Pledge of Allegiance.
The building principal, or his/her designee, came over the intercom and announced the National Anthem or led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
About half way through my teaching career, I began to have students refuse to stand for either of those.
