    Macedonia Baptist Church,  103 E. Pearl St., Rev. Anthony L. Stevenson, Pastor; Macedonia Baptist Church S.I.S. Women’s Ministry will hold a Community Health Fair which at the church on Saturday, July 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.  
    The fair includes informational sessions(dementia, diabetes, dental, etc.) and screenings (memory, blood pressure, glucose, etc.), snacks, prize drawings and more.  For  further information, please call 859-234-8373.


  • Cynthiana Dental Center holds ribbon cutting ceremony for their new location

    A new dental center opened March 5 in Cynthiana.
    The Cynthiana Dental Center is run by Drs. Jason McIlvain and Jewell Meade.
    Meade said she and McIlvain worked together at a dental center in Paris and had wanted to open a center in Cynthiana in a few years. She said they didn’t think it would happen this soon though.
    Everything started falling into place, Meade bought the land and building and then the construction began.

  • Reunions

    The Henry N. and LuMara Fryman family reunion will be held July 15, 2012, at Unity Christian Church on KY 36 W. Cynthiana.  
    Descendants include families of Edward and Nettie Fryman,  Ottis and Minnie Fryman, Florence and Dove Wagner, Ada and Wilford Wagner, Clara and Orie Florence, Ida Jane and James Snapp.
    A potluck lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Cutlery will be provided. Bring drinks.  Come and enjoy family, fellowship and good food.

    Navy Seaman Aron D. Cole, grandson of Ruth A. Sartin of Paris, Ky., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
    During the eight-week program, Cole completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
    Cole is a 2009 graduate of Bourbon County High School of Paris, Ky.

    Night Shivers Story and Craft. Thursday, July 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Make an edible campfire and listen to sccaaarrryyy stories. For ages 4 and up. Pre-registration is recommended.
    Mini Hinged Book Box. Thursday, July 5 at 5:30 p.m. Decorate a Mini Hinged Book Box: Paint, brushes and modpodge will be provided by the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library (for patrons ages 16 and up). Pre-registration is suggested and preferred. Bring own artwork, pictures, etc.

  • Harrison, Cynthiana firefighters in Carlisle

    Cynthiana Democrat staffer Joshua Guthrie, a resident of Carlisle, has posted photos from the monster fire in Carlisle at www.cynthianademocrat.com.
    The fire started in an apartment building in downtown Carlisle, according to reports.
    Firefighters from Cynthiana and Harrison County are assisting with the battle.
    According to Cynthiana Chief Jay Sanders, five firefighters from Cynthiana and 10 from the Harrison County Volunteer Department have been sent to Nicholas County.

  • HCHS Class of 1957

    The Harrison County High School class of 1957 will meet at Biancke’s July 16 at noon. Join classmates for lunch and help plan the 55-year class reunion that will be Oct. 13.


    Richardson, Franklin, Ritchie families will hold their family reunion on Saturday July 4, at the Richardson home place on Peak Lane. Lunch at noon. Bring a covered dish. Meat, plates, napkins, cups and utensils will be furnished.

  • Toadvine Reunion

    The descendants of Purnell and Ziporah Toadvine will hold their 78th family reunion on Sunday, July 15 at 1 p.m. at the fellowship hall of Curry United Methodist Church.
    A potluck meal will be served. Plates, napkins, cups and utensils will be furnished. Bring the family, a covered dish and beverage. If you have family pictures, letters, stories or Toadvine history, bring them to share with those attending.
