    The Barlow Homemaker Club was named for former County Extension Agent, Wanda Barlow. There are 12 members and they have been very active during the 2012-2013 calendar year.
    In October 2012, a Halloween costume party was held at the home of Tammy Switzer. The November Thanksgiving meal was hosted by Judy Williams at the new airport facility. A Christmas party was hosted by Kathy Brooks and Wanda Gaunce hosted a Valentine party. In March a white elephant auction was held, and plans are underway for a June outing.

  • Seeing police from diffrent perspective

    For the last several weeks I have been participating in the Kentucky State Police’s Citizens Police Academy.
    I have regular dealings with the Kentucky State Police and law enforcement in general. I have gone on ride-alongs with troopers over the years and have felt just a smattering of the adrenaline of a high-speed chase... er pulling over a speeder, but there were blue lights and sirens.
    Well, you get the picture.
    However, the CPA has been a complete eye opener.

  • Directors’ vote to ban public from meeting was evasive tactic to avoid embarrassing open discussion

    A special meeting of the Commission on Aging board of directors, which was held last Thursday afternoon was a paragon of how not to hold a public meeting.
    The directors voted unanimously to close the meeting despite objection from The Cynthiana Democrat citing that closing the meeting for financial discussion was against the Kentucky Open Meetings Law.
    An agent with the Internal Revenue Service told board members that she could not discuss specifics of the board’s indebtedness, its penalties and interest, with anyone other than the board of directors.

    Dawson Allen Wagoner was born to David Wagoner and Sabrina Hill, both of Cynthiana, on March 7, 2013 at Central Baptist Hospital.
    He weighed 4 lbs. 5 oz., and is welcomed by his sister, Caylee Hill.
    Maternal grandparents are Holly and Eugene Hill of Cynthiana.
    Paternal grandparents are Cecil and Rhonda Wagoner of Cynthiana; paternal great-grandparents are Joy Bennett, Beulah Cain, and Wayne Bennett and Tina McNay, all of Cynthiana; paternal great-great-grandparents are Cordelia Bennett of Cynthiana and the late Cecil Bennett.

    Adalynne Michelle Kiskaden was born to Kayla Kiskaden of Berry, Ky., on Jan. 2, 2013 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz.
    Maternal grandparents are Connie Kiskaden and Ronald Kiskaden of Berry; maternal great-grandparents are Janet Kiskaden of Cynthiana, Ronald Kiskaden Sr. of Cynthiana, and Opal Griffin of Cynthiana.

    He weighed 8 lbs. 3 oz., and is welcomed by his brother, Zander Charles.
    Maternal grandparents are Brandy Hounchell of Deer Park, Texas and the late Carl Dwayne Hounchell of Cynthiana.
    Paternal grandparents are Donna and Gary Charles of Cynthiana.
