  • ‘Those who look up, find a way out’

I have a friend who loves bees.

Last week she brought me to her secret place, a trail in a wooded area in a local park. Located on the trail is my friend’s bee tree.

My friend comes to this secret place often. She said she goes there to talk to God, since how can you help but talk to him surrounded by all that nature?

“Just look up at the canopy of trees!” she said as we walked.

  • Deceased Animal Removal Program for Harrison Co.

We received a call concerning the Deceased Animal Removal Program. The question being asked, is there still a program for our county? The answer is yes and it should be in effect for this year.

We are still working with Griffin Industry and if you have lost a beef animal, horse, or swine, you should call 1-800-847-5187 as soon as you realize you have a problem. They will not pick up animals which have been deceased for lengthy periods. One or two days will be the longest period the processor will pick up.

  • Scott Eagles too tall for Fillies

Scott High’s Eagles came to town Tuesday evening and defeated the Harrison County Fillies by a 44-33 margin.

The Fillies game plan was superb. The one thing that Coach Jason Crisp warned his team about came true in a big way.

“I told them if we could keep Stinson from having a big game, we could win this game,” Crisp said.

Unfortunately, sophomore Taylor Stinson took advantage of the Fillies’ double team defense on 6-foot-4 Lauren Tibbs and poured in 21 points for the night.

  • Anniversary of the ice storm, time to reassess

It’s been one year since the devastating ice storm of 2009.  I am tempted to honor the power of Mother Nature by having an evening without electricity (save the refrigerator and using electricity for the pump that delivers water from the cistern!) It was a humbling experience for many of us, which most of us are over; but the impact on many of our trees in the landscape remains apparent.
