    The Henry N. and LuMara Fryman family reunion will be held July 17 at Unity Christian Church on Hwy. 36 W. Cynthiana, Ky. Descendants include families of Edward and Nettie Fryman, Ottis and Minnie Fryman, Florence and Dove Wagner, Ada and Wilford Wagner, Clara and Orie Florence, Ida Jane and James Snapp.
    A potluck lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Cutlery will be provided. Bring drinks. Come and enjoy family, fellowship and food.

  • Academic briefs

    The following students have been named to the Dean’s List at Georgetown College, Georgetown, Kentucky, for the 2011 spring semester. The Dean’s List honors undergraduate students who completed the semester with at least 12 credit hours and a 3.7 GPA, according to Dr. Rosemary Allen, Provost/Academic Dean.
    Samantha L. Richardson of Sadieville. Samantha is the daughter of Gary and Terri Richardson.
    Cassie Elizabeth Williams of Sadieville. Cassie is the daughter of Dennis and Teresa Williams of Sadieville.

  • Trouble shooting tomato problems

    This time last year I had some healthy looking tomato plants, which was a delight because in 2009, I had some disease issues.  
    Turned out that 2010 was a bust though because of all the crazy heat we had.
    This year the garden and the tomatoes look promising, but I am always on the lookout for emerging problems. So far the 2011 day-time and night-time summer weather and temperature are absolutely perfect for tomatoes.      

  • BGE offers weather application for iPads

    Members of Blue Grass Energy now have access to the most up-to-date weather maps and storm alerts on their iPads.
    WKYT-TV (Channel 27)’s state-of-the-art FirstAlert DEFENDER radar recently became available through an application or ‘app’ that can be downloaded to iPads via a WKYT Weather app. The weather-specific iPad app is a first for any Kentucky television station.
    It’s available now in the iTunes app store, or it can be downloaded at www.wkyt.com/weather.

  • Harrison Circuit Court Clerk attends 2011 Circuit Clerks Summer College

    Harrison County Circuit Court Clerk Kathy Kearns participated in the 2011 Circuit Clerks Summer College held June 14-16 in Florence, Ky.
    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Division of Driver Licensing, sponsored the event and provided training on fraudulent documents, driver education programs and services available through the Division of Driver Licensing’s field offices.

  • Kentucky State Fairbears coming to Harrison Co.

    The Kentucky State Fair’s mascots, Fairbear and Fairabear, will be visiting the Harrison County Fair on Sunday, July 10. Fairbear and Fairabear will be giving hugs and information about the 2011 Kentucky State Fair. The state fair will take place Aug. 18-28 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky.

    Saving money is what local politicians should seek out as their job description, but there is a fine line between saving and cutting at the wrong end.
    I am sure that citizens have heard rumor of the E-911 situation that has been brought to attention recently.
    Being present at the meetings and speaking one on one with local government officials, I have had the opportunity to gain some inside information that has helped me better understand the situation.
