    The Cornerstone Assembly Full Gospel Church, 101 N. Locust St.,  will be having a church-wide yard sale on Saturday, Aug. 4, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with proceeds to benefit the church.
    The yard sale will be followed by a Singspiration with special guest singers performing.
    The public is invited.


  • Free computer classes now available at public library

    Class Offerings List:
    •Monday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. - “Introduction to the Internet and Basic Internet Usage”
    •Monday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. - “Resume Class” Come to learn how to use the new program at the library Cypress Resume
    •Monday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.  - “Social Media/Internet Privacy” – This is the same class being offered on Sept. 17. This is a one session class.

  • Local fabric store celebrates fifth anniversary

    Purr-sonally Yours quilt and fabric shop celebrated its five-year anniversary at the end of June.
    The shop is owned by Diane and Mark McClain, who also own Radio Shack.
    Diane McClain said a few things have changed since they first opened. She said they started as an embroidery shop and changed to a full fabric and quilt shop.
    McClain said they have even had to expand to the back of Radio Shack.
    The McClains opened the store in the Harrison Square five years ago because they had the space available at the time.

    Women’s Brook Group. Thursday, July 26 at 6 p.m. at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. The book for discussion will be The Paris Wife by Paula McClain. Refreshments will be served the night of discussion.  Copies of the book may be picked up at the front desk.

    Singers recruiting underway
    Calling all music lovers! The Licking Valley Singers, Harrison County’s Community Choir, is recruiting new members for its Fall 2012 session. The Licking Valley Singers is an “all comers” non-auditioned community choir open to anyone who loves to sing. The LV Singers perform all kinds of musical styles including classical, pop, folk and Broadway.

  • Feds issue indictment in gun theft at pawn shop

    The Cynthiana man accused of snatching a gun from  Cynthiana Jewelry and Pawn Shop in May now faces a federal indictment.
    Jonathan Wayne Moore, 37, was indicted in Lexington last week on a charge of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
    Moore was initially arrested just minutes after the May 21 alleged incident at the Church Street business.

  • Breds soccer welcomes back 14 for 2012 season

    Coach Nick Hill has a veteran, talented group back for the 2012 Harrison County Thorobreds Soccer squad including eight seniors.  
    When one adds the six juniors, many  of whom played a lot of minutes last year, he has a formidable team to begin the season.  
    Last year’s 9-9-2 record was somewhat disappointing though the Breds always face a tough schedule and had some injury issues along the way.  

  • Enough already

    What has been going on at Penn State University has been some of the most vile and sick incidents in recent memory and yet the Paterno family refuses to let the findings stand and move on with what is left of their life.  
    The report issued by former FBI Director Louis Freeh was 267 pages of damnation of the Penn State football program as well as the president of the university and its athletic director.
