  • Family mission causes a change in heart

When I write a column for our Viewpoint section of the Cynthiana Democrat, I try to find some humorous story to ramble on about.
Sometimes, I even go outside my comfort zone and try and sound intellectual in discussing a sensitive or important issue within the county or city.
However, never before have I been sitting at my computer and been led by emotion to share a story with everyone, until now.

  • Forty-three Kentucky counties eligible emergency loans

On May 4, President Obama declared 14 Kentucky counties as disaster areas due to damages and losses caused by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding that occurred from April 26, and continuing. Those counties are Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Carter, Fleming, Gallatin, Kenton, Lawrence, Morgan, Nicholas, Oldham, Owen and Washington.
As a result of the declaration, 29 Kentucky counties were named as contiguous counties where eligible family farmers may qualify for FSA EM loan assistance pursuant to Section 321(a) of the Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act.

  • To Randy, with all my love

I ran into Randy Riggs last week.
It’s been a few years since I’ve seen him, and every time I do he oozes God.
The rest of this column is a rerun of what I wrote about my first encounter with him in October 2000:
I don’t know Randy Riggs well, but I love him with all my heart. That’s because God used him to whack me over the head when I needed whacking.
    Sometimes God does that.
