  • Box-Viens plan June wedding in South Carolina

    Mr. and Mrs. Terry Box of Cynthiana announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Susan Marie Box, to Derek Joseph Viens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Viens of Lexington, Ky.
    Box is a 2002 graduate of Harrison County High School and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. She is employed by the Fleming County School System as an occupational therapist.
    Viens is a 2001 graduate of Lafayette Senior High School and is employed at Lexus.

  • No-till philosophy easy on the soil

    One of the most anticipated rites of spring is dusting off the tiller and heading out to the vegetable garden for a little soil play.
    It is one of those things you can’t plan for, though. It becomes a waiting game because we can’t do it if the soil is too wet; we don’t want to do it if it is too cold and we only have the time to do it when the weekend rolls around.
    Well, what would you say if I told you that you were off the hook when it comes to spring tilling?

  • Roses to be honored on 50th anniversary

    Mr. and Mrs. David Rose of Milford, Ky., announce that they are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple was married on April 20, 1962 by the Rev. Sorrell at the Cynthiana Church of God.
    They are the parents of Lisa (Louis) Kendall of Cynthiana and Kathy (Joel) Brumley of Milford, and the grandparents of Jacob and Jesseca Kendall and Michaela Brumley.

  • Deadline nears for candidate endorsement letters

    With an election on the horizon, The Cynthiana Democrat welcomes letters of endorsement for candidates of the 2012 election.
    The last date to publish candidate endorsements for the May 22, 2012, primary election is the May 10 issue. The deadline for that edition is Monday, May 4.
    Letters should be no more than 300 words. All letters must be signed and include a daytime telephone number for verification purposes. Letters will not be published unless the author can be reached during business hours.

  • It's a busy time in our fair city

    If you find yourself saying “There’s nothing to do” in Cynthiana over the next few weeks, it’s your own fault.
    I find myself wondering how or if I’ll get it all in.
    This weekend, The Licking Valley Singers will have two spring performances with a stroll down the rock’n roll memory lane.
    It’ll be the Beach Boys meeting Grease and Happy Days all rolled into one with some of the best of the oldies music.

  • Kentucky Life team visits in Franklin, Fredonia and Burnside

    Kentucky Life, host Dave Shuffett joins a team of ghost hunters during an eerie stop at Octagon Hall in Franklin, which many believe is one of the most haunted sites in America. The program also visits the Wilson-Blair African American One Room Schoolhouse and Museum in Caldwell County; explores the cliffs above Lake Cumberland in Burnside; and more. The program airs Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29 on KET.
