    Anna Christine Burgan was born to Kurt and Jennifer Burgan of Cynthiana on July 1, 2008 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.

    She weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz., and is welcomed by her sisters, Sara Ann and Laura Beth Ledford.

    Maternal grandparents are Robert Bedford of Cynthiana and the late Betty Bedford.

    Paternal grandparents are Inez Burgan of Cynthiana and the late Prentice Burgan Jr.

  • 28 years working + four robberies equals retirement for Philpot

    After 28 years in the banking industry and being a victim of four robberies, Christine Philpot was ready to retire.

    She had looked down the barrel of a Saturday Night Special, been shut inside the bank's vault, told if she pushed a button it would be her last, and with the last robbery told, "I'm sorry I made a bad day for you ladies," after he had helped himself to the contents of the cash drawer.

    Yes, Philpot said, it was time to retire. On May 9, she did just that.

    "I loved my job," she said.

    Joel Micah Fields, formerly of Cynthiana, received the Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law Sunday, May 4 during the schools 96th commencement held at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts in Memphis, Tenn. Joel is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

    Joel is the son of Jean Fields of Gibsonville, N.C. and the late LTC Charles G. Fields of Cynthiana.

  • Breds shut out Bluejackets in scrimmage play

    The Aaron Stepp Era of Harrison County football got off to a solid start last Friday as the Breds scored on their first offensive play from scrimmage in a 18-0 win over host Nicholas County in both teams first pre-season scrimmage of the year.

    The Breds went on defense first in the 10-play opening sequence and held the Bluejackets out of the end zone.

    Taking over on their own 30 yard line for its 10 play possession, Harrison County wasted no time in showing the Thorobred faithful what the 2008 offense would look like.

    Aug. 6 at 6:10 p.m. -- Non-injury, New Lair Road, James F. Behr, 45, Longwood, Fla., driving a 1995 Chevrolet 7000.

    Aug. 5 at 12:45 p.m. -- Non-injury, Ky. 1842 East, Mary A. McNees, 60, Cynthiana, driving a 2000 Dodge Caravan; Dwight K. Clifford, 49, driving a 1988 Chevrolet 1500.

    HCHS Season Passes

    Season passes for students and adults continue to be on sale at Harrison County High School during regular school hours and are also available for purchase at the gate of each HCHS home sporting event.

    Adults

    1. All Sports Pass (good for admission to all home regular season events, excluding tournaments and special events approximately 50 home events) -- $125

    2. 14-game pass (good for any 14 varsity, freshman or junior varsity contests) -- $50

  • Motorcycle ride to benefit four-month-old

    A benefit motorcycle ride will be held Saturday, Aug. 23 for four-month-old John Mikel Sidles who has a viral infection that spread to his heart. He and his family have traveled to Arkansas Childrens Hospital to await a heart transplant.

    Cost for the ride is $15 per bike. Entry will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Paris Wal-Mart with departure at 10:30 a.m.

    The ride will take a trip through Red River Gorge and onto the Sky Bridge, up to Cave Run Lake and then return to Paris.
