  • View school as an opportunity, not a sentencing

And the infamous countdown, for the majority of students, has began.

Only five days remain in the 2013 summer break for Harrison County students and I am sure that there will be plenty of headaches to come in the next few days.

  • Fillies sixth in CKC, eighth in Clark as the season begins

The Harrison County Fillies golf team hit the ground running the past week as they began the season with two large tournaments.
They began by hosting the nine-team Central Kentucky Conference tournament on Friday at the Cynthiana Country Club. Freshmen Sarah Holland and Sarah Durbin led the way for the Fillies as they shot very well for the first time out.  Holland finished sixth among the 52 golfers, shooting 90 for the 18 holes.

  • Thorobred golfers start season with Franklin County Invitational

The 24-team Franklin County Invitational was the starting point for this year’s addition of the Harrison County Thorobreds golf team.  The Breds played Monday and Tuesday at the Marriott course in Frankfort in the tournament won by Louisville St. Xavier.

  • Cross country has high hopes as season approaches

“Although we graduated some very good runners we still have a very talented group returning,” said Coach Danny Simpson. “We just have to run to our potential.”
Graduated from last year’s team are Joey Faulkner and Joe Thomas, two of the three top Thorobreds’ runners, along with Bailey Caudill and Heather Randolph from the Fillies.

  • Odds and ends

In the article that I wrote about football rules, there are a couple of changes/additions that I need to make. There is some disagreement on rule 3-5-10d as to whether or not it is a penalty if a player takes his helmet off on his own in the dead ball interval. Some believe that it is not, but the way it is written, until someone clarifies it to me and then I’m not sure I would tell my players not to take it off.

Baseball alums to host golf scramble
The Cynthiana-Harrison County Baseball Alumni Association is hosting a golf scramble to raise funds for the scholarships given after each baseball season is completed.
This will be a fun, fellowship day of golf beginning at 2 p.m. on Aug. 10. Each entrant will receive a nice golf towel and a meal along with an enjoyable round of golf.
There will be a shotgun start and interested parties may sign up as a team or as an individual and be placed on a team. The cost is $50 per person or $200 per team.

  • Vacationing in a state of grace

Last week I took a trip to California where I’m from.

I met my sister, daughter and granddaughter in San Francisco where we stayed with my 92-year-old aunt.
