  • Mistakes doom Breds, LexCath rolls, 61-7

    It was the classic case of moving from the penthouse to the outhouse for the Harrison County Thorobreds this past Friday night.

    Two weeks ago, after a slow start, the Breds enjoyed a big second quarter and romped past the Bourbon County Colonels, 49-14. All but the first two minutes of the second half was played with a running clock after Harrison County extended its initial lead to 45 points.

    Adult Book Group. The group will meet to discuss the book, "The Time Traveler’s Wife" by Audrey Niffenrgger, on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Refreshments will be provided.

     

    Berry City Commission will meet Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m., at Berry City Hall. The meetings are open to the public.

    Case reports

    Sept. 23—At 6:13 p.m., Billy G. Combs, Locust Street, had been pulled out of his wheelchair into Locust Street by individuals involved in an on-going fight.

    Sept. 26 – At 10:41 p.m., Cynthia Robinson reported that someone had spray painted her vehicle and the vehicle of Amy Ledford on Newsome Avenue.

    Sept. 27 – At 11:18 a.m., Thomas Hill reported that a man in a black Ford pick-up truck drove off without paying for $47.35 worth of fuel from Ken’s Exxon.

  • Fillies on uptick as District approaches

    The Harrison County Fillies are saving their best for last with the 38th District Volleyball Tournament looming on the horizon.

    Harrison County has been on a roll over the past three weeks, suffering only two losses since Sept. 13, both of them to highly regarded area teams. Their only losses in that time period have come to Lexington Catholic and Villa Madonna.

  • Fall Fling this weekend

    With just two weeks left in the volleyball regular season, the Harrison County Fillies are hosting a 12-team tournament this weekend at Harrison County High School and Harrison County Middle School.

    The Fall Fling will feature three four-team pools. Pool  No. 1 will feature host Harrison County, Prestonsburg, Bourbon County and Louisville Iroquois. Pool  No. 2 will consist of Villa Madonna, Pendleton County, Bracken County and Madison Southern. Pool  No. 3 will have Montgomery County, Fleming County, Clark County and Madison Central.

  • Breds blast Bourbon, 49-14

    Heading into last Friday’s district opener, Harrison County football coach Aaron Stepp was fearful of one thing. He was afraid that the bigger, stronger Bourbon County Colonels would control the game with their offensive line and strong running game.

    Those fears appeared to be warranted over the game’s first seven minutes.

  • High school sports

    On Saturday the Harrison County High School cross country teams traveled to the Scott High Classic in Northern Kentucky. Harrison County coach Danny Simpson was pleased with his team’s performance, but expects to see some improvement in the near future.

    “Our varsity boys placed ninth in the team competition.  They ran solid races, but overall there wasn’t the improvement we expected,” said Simpson.

  • Breds' one win for the season has Hill puzzled

    The Harrison County Thorobreds soccer team is still stuck on one win for the regular season, which is puzzling to head coach Nick Hill.

    On Tuesday night, the Breds played regional favorite Montgomery County on even terms for nearly three-fourths of the game, before allowing a pair of goals in the last 20 minutes to fall 2-0.

    Last week, coming off their first win of the season over Frankfort, the Breds lacked much fire in dropping a 3-0 decision to Mason County at LeBus Field.

  • Top brass: Cynthiana has Star-Spangled Ryder Cup entry in Hedges

    Chris Hedges, Harrison County High School band director and trumpeter in demand, played his part in last weeks Ryder Cup in Louisville.

    His first activity with the Ryder Cup was to play The Star-Spangled Banner for the Captains Challenge on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

    He also played the National Anthem at a Ryder Cup pep rally in downtown Louisville on Thursday night.

    I had no idea what it would be like, Hedges said. I had been preparing and practicing. Its a hard song to sing and a hard song to play.
